Canon of Praise ( Pachelbel's canon in D)

Browsing through some old project, i found i had this still:

Canon of Praise / Pachebels canon in D

http://snd.sc/vxqsBW

It was my first exercise in layering guitar (basically using a guitar for all parts in the song).
The arrangement is roughly based on Christmas Canon by Transsiberian Orchestra.

And I think I want to re-do the mix, so I'd like to have some  opinions on how to change the mix and maybe the arrangement.

Good guitars, thickening the drums is a must though

This is a lovely song, and I don't think you have to do much to elevate this to the next level.  The drums could come up a bit and be more present.  Perhaps, adding a different instrument to go with the guitar could add a new dimension.  It'll be interesting to hear what others on this forum have to say because there are some brilliant minds here.  Best of luck to you.

    All the best,

Depending on how you recorded this, there are three things I would consider...1) Arrangement: I find this just doesn't gel for me. 2) Instrumentation: if possible, reconsider the tone on the guitars. 3) Compression: In a piece like this one, dynamics in performance are critical.

When I recorded this piece, I knew almost nothing about mixing. All I did was pick a sound from Amplitube, volume, panning and some reverb.

I'm following the Wall of Sound fred here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2603608 with great interest. I think I want the same full sound for this song.

I think I will reset everything, and start from the ground up.

I would try a different distorted Rhythm guitar sound. The one you're using sounds very thin and buzzy fuzzy. Some of the bends sounded like they didn't quite hit the target note. Those can be terribly tricky. It's a great song, though, and you sound like you can turn out a great version of it once you get it dialed in.
