Can't Sync HS 7 XL to Tascam 2488

I just received Home Studio 7 XL and it looks really cool. However, I am trying to get it to sync up with my Tascam 2488 24-track recorder via MTC but I cannot get them to communicate. I have tried to use each as a slave and master to the other but without luck. I can see that the MIDI signals are going through because they cause the "MIDI" LEDs to light up on both the 2488 and my M-Audio USB MIDISport 2X2 interface. I am pretty sure that my settings are correct. Any ideas?

(It is a Dell system with Windows Vista, integrated sound card.) Also, my keyboards are communicating just fine with HS 7 XL through the M-Audio interface.

    AFAIK: Home Studio does not support MTC or SMPTE. Those are advanced features only available in Sonar Studio or Sonar Producer. You can use MIDI Sync to synchronize your devices. Historically, Home Studio had to be the Master in that type of configuration, however, that may have changed in the newer releases.

    Thanks for your response. Here is what the Getting Started Guide that came with my SONAR Home Studio/XL Version 7 says:

    "SONAR provides chase lock sync to time code for frame-by-frame accuracy when synchronizing to audio or MIDI to film or video...SMPTE synchronization is a snap and can also be used to lock the position of groove clips and audio events."

    This version of Home Studio should be a SONAR product. Am I misunderstanding something?

    yes, but notice it says "SONAR". what cakewalk has done is use Sonar to create SHS and MC by disabling some features and then they don't remove all of those features from the help files. the help files were created for Sonar and they were supposed to have removed all parts which did not pertain to SHS but they did not.

    I agree with dave, I could be wrong, but I believe that SMPTE and MTC are only available in sonar.

    It is Sonar Home Studio, but there are also Sonar Studio and Sonar Producer which are the professional level products. Unfortunately, Cakewalk is not always clear in their manuals and Help files as to what features are available at each level.
