Can't bring up Soft Synth property pages.
I've been searching but I can't find a thread about this. Sorry if I missed this. I can insert soft synths fine but when I want to go back to their GUIs to make changes they won't come up. What am I doing wrong? I always double click their icons in the browser and that always worked fine. Some other way I don't know about? Thanks you for your help. ~EFaaT

Soft synths and effects don't do me much good if I can't open their GUIs to make changes. I hope I can figure something out. I don't want to go back to X1.

For getting to a soft synth's property page, I just double click in the Browser Pane, with the Synth tab clicked (Browse Synth Rack), and what I am double-clicking on there is the icon on the far left side of a given synth's entry there - the icon looks like a little round midi connector and a keyboard. That opens up the property page for the desired synth without fail for me, and it has not changed in that for several years - at least 8.5 I believe. Can you please tell me precisely what you are double-clicking on? Also, I open up an inserted effect's property page by simply double-clicking on it in the effects bin for the track/bus in question. Can you tell me there as well what precisely you are double-clicking on that it is not coming up? Bob Bone

I just tested it, and double-clicking the synth icon in the track pane still brings it up for me. That probably doesn't help you much, but at least you know it is still functional in the program. One thing I did notice - there are actually two little keyboard/synth icons if you have the track pane expanded - the upper one opens the properties, and the bottom one just toggles how vertically expanded the track is.

The track icon you need isn't the large one of the two it's the one in the track header (the small one just to the left of the track name). If it isn't showing select "Main menu--->View--->Icons-->Track View--->Show in Header" HTH

Hi there Thomas Just to add to what's been said (although it's probably not the case here), clicking on the icon will not open the GUI if the synth is frozen.

OK guys, many thanks for the responses. I have been clicking (since X1) on the synth icon on the left of the browser pane, as you described. Always worked before. Those synths were not frozen. UPDATE: Last night I had no problem opening the synths as described. I'm going to chalk it up to something on my system but, really, it's a very lean, clean nearly Sonar-only system, so I don't know what interfered. It wasn't a one-time thing either. It was a few days of struggle for me. Crossing my fingers that stays OK because you know a synth without a GUI useless. Thanks again. You guys are a gift to many of us in need! :)

EFaaT ... I'm going to chalk it up to something on my system but, really, it's a very lean, clean nearly Sonar-only system, so I don't know what interfered.... I too have a lean clean machine that experiences graphical glitches every once in a while. My gut feeling is that it's graphics/card/drivers related. It's the one thing in Windows that you have very little real control over, and every card and manufacturer has to play nicely with Windows which is never happy if it's not in control...so what we get is a graphics "wrestling match" stalemate. Just my gut feeling. Probably talking out my a##. Best, Rob

If you disable the Aero in win7 and go to a basic graphic display you can work around graphic issues. Bob Bone

Yeah, but even using basic display, the graphics card and Windows still have to communicate and play nice.... not always guaranteed. ps. there was another thread about using/not using Aero... I think the jury is still out. I'm waiting and watching. I think the theory was, if you use basic Windows classic, Windows uses system memory, whereas if you use Aero, Windows allows the graphics card to take over and use it's memory instead of system memory. I sometimes wonder just what good I did getting a video card with a bunch of onboard memory... Again, I admit ignorance when it comes to video cards/drivers/memory...

You are correct on your theory - but chip sets on video cards can adversely affect Sonar as well, and disabling the Aero and using the basic display also uses the default VGA mode and less circuitry - if my understanding is correct. So, just give it a shot and see if that helps you. If it does not, then something else is going on. Going through what you are going through is a bit of a process of weeding out causes for issues. It sucks, but it is how it goes sometimes. Let's see if we can get your performance to stabilize and then you can make some choices, but at least you will be starting from a place that is fully functional. Bob Bone

Thanks for your input, Robert, but I'm not really having the same issues as the original poster, just a glitch here and there with different programs over the years, but, thankfully, none that persisted or became a problem. I have tried using both Windows Classic and Aero with no noticeable difference in X2's performance. But I'm not really a "Power" user. X2 has worked great for me.

I understand - I am just trying to help him isolate the problems, then work-arounds can be evaluated. Right now he does not have any idea what is causing his problems. The only way to really isolate the cause of the problems is to methodically go through turning things on/off, disabling hardware and services, etc. Until the cause or causes of his problems are determined, they are not likely to just vanish. So, I think a reasonable course of action is to go through that process and see what turns up, and then something may be able to be done to eliminate the cause of the problems. I do agree with you - X2 has been wonderful. Try looking at: 1. Services that are running that don't need to be present during audio processing sessions. Things like antivirus, print spooler, IP helpers, network sharing, etc. do not need to be present when you are recording, and can sometimes put enough of a load on things that you get audio issues. Try looking through services that are running and take some of the bigger ones and turn them off temporarily, while running DPC Latency Checker, to see if that helps. 2. I have had weird problems from way out in left field causes - once a physical battery in a laptop was causing horrific latency spikes. Disconnecting the battery instantly solved that one. Look through your devices in device manager and try to disable the ones you do not use, such as parallel ports, and things like that. Hope that helps, Bob Bone

same problem here, hasn't happened before. no new system additions... when i double-click breverb or th2 or transient shaper as i usually do to tweak, there is no response. no gui pops up. i know the mouse click is being registered, but no response from sonar. restarting sonar doesn't help. i'm dead in the water... seems to be project related. of the last 4 projects i worked on, one proj works normally (th2 opens when you click...) the others don't open the plugins. the plugs are working, they can be turned on and off but not edited. almost like sonar lost the link to them or something.
