Can't edit VST instrument parameters post X1d

Ever since I upgraded to X1d PE I can no longer directly edit parameters (by typing numbers) in my VST instruments.  For example, if I want to type an impulse length of 3500ms by typing '3500', it moves to the screen set #3 and closes my instrument page.  This is most annoying.  I am running no mods Win7x64 w/24GB ram.
 
Is there a way to restore functionality and maintain focus to VST dialogs?

    Try using the numpad for inputting numbers. There should be a icon that looks like keyboard at the right of the VST window clicking that should pass key strokes to the VSTi.

    That worked!  I feel silly now.  I never paid any attention to that icon before.
