Can't get Fantom VS sound through Sonar X1

I have been working a few days on this and have done all of the required software/firmware updates.  I have fantom VS working perfectly (no errors), BUT I can only hear the Fantom VS via the direct mixer.  I can't seem to get the sound within Sonar X1, and, therefore, can't mix record anything.
 
I'm  hoping this is something obvious that I'm missing, but at this point I can't figure it out.  Please help.
 
I have Sonar X1 (d) producer expanded 64 bit (on Windows 7 64 bit PC) and am using VS700R/C combo.

    never mind.  I think I've finally got this sorted. what a PITA!
