Cant get Melodyne in X3 to load a 'Melodyned' audio clip - Fixed
xedHi, I have downloaded and installed X3 successfully this weekend. No problems at all playing a 36 track project completed from X2 which I used as my X3 'test' project after installation. Last night I was testing the new X3 features, and particularly looking forward to getting familiar with Melodyne in ARA mode. However, for the life of me I cannot get Melodyne to load up a clip. I am able to get a blank instance of Melodyne to load up from within Sonar (forget how I did that now, as not at my DAW) It reports that the licence is valid, as I did register and submit the licence key obtained from my account at the Cakewalk site.) I have right clicked on the clip, and prepared the clip as a Melodyne region FX as per the X3 manual. I see the ARA preparation in the toolbar and it all looks good, with the clip subsequently reporting in the top left that it is indeed a Melodyne clip. After that, the manual says that to open the clip, you double click / and / or right click and use a menu selection to open the clip. However, for the life of me, I cannot get any response to either method, and the 'Melodyned' clip remains resolutely in place. Both Melodyne and X3 are installed as 64-bit running under Win 7 64-bit. I did get an opportunity to upgrade to a later version of Melodyne when I installed but I closed that page to return later, but subsequently cant locate it. Could that be the issue? Any idea what I may be doing wrong? I got to the point of reading the same page of the manual over and over again and only repeating my efforts, at which point it is a good time to stop and have a rethink or come here to the forum. Any ideas? Garry Kiosk

Select a clip or part of a clip From the track view Region FX menu select Melodyne > Create Region FX This should launch Melodyne in the multidock with the selection loaded. It should also add the RFX menu to the selection. If you close the instance of Melodyne in the multidock, double-click the region FX clip or right click the RFX menu to relaunch Melodyne. You should update Melodyne, IIRC there were some changes made specifically for SONAR. To manually launch the update process open Melodyne and in the menu Settings > Preferences click the "Check Now" button next to "Check for Updates" settings.

Hmm plenty to go on there Scook, many thanks, although I cant get back to my DAW until this evening. I didn't fully explore the Multidock, so my double clicking would not have had any effect if the Melodyne clip window was already open but just not in the view I was looking at. Also I will check for updates as recommended too. Good steer, thanks, as my X3 installation appears to be working sweetly, I though it unlikely to be a bug and more something I was missing. I will report back tonight and let you know how I get on. Regards Garry

I bought Melodyne about a year ago. To be truthful, I've never really liked it and used Vvocal for my uses. Melodyne was a "bust" purchase for me. Sadly, now Vvocal is out and Melodyne is in, with Sonar X3.

Of course, you can still use V-Vocal if you wish but that is not what this thread is about.

Yes...erm, thanks Fireberd. I really do hope you feel better for getting that off your chest - Sincerely. However, it does not really help me with my problem in the way scook is I would like to try Melodyne for myself. YMMV. Garry

Thanks Firebird. I must have been very tired last night. It seems that the Melodyne window somehow got minimised, so my attempts to 'open' it by double clicking were in vain as it was already open but not visible. Seems obvious to me now, but these things can often fox you when fatigued. Thanks once again.

I think we have all at one point or another had some message box requiring a response hiding behind an open window, meanwhile beating our brains out trying to figure out why the !#%(*% program wouldn't close. (many times I am my worst assistant). Bob Bone
