Cant get PRV in Multidock ?

I must be missing something obvious. I can get other views such as console, staff etc to open up and tab etc in the multidock window, I can undock them and move them to my second monitor, but I cannot get my main MIDI editing PRV window to open, I have tried Alt+3, Views/ Piano View Roll, right clicking on one of my MIDI clips and selecting View / Piano View Roll  - Nothing...

What am I doing wrong here.... I'm perplexed

It won't open at all? Weird.

What about double-clicking a MIDI clip?

Hi Scott, yes, weird, i'm giving myself a few hours this evening just to load up a couple of my work in progress projects and get familiar with X1. At first I though I was missing something obvious and after about 20 minutes of trying I came to the forum here. Just to repeat, no matter what I try I cannot get a PRV view to open up in any way to edit MIDI data. The one thing I haven't tried yet is a complete DAW reboot, its a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit from only 2 weeks ago and been running sweet but lets see, I'll come back and edit this post when I have done it and tried again

EDIT - Yes its getting really weird now, After a complete reboot, I have just created a simple new project, one instrument track with Dim Pro loaded up with a basic organ sample, recorded a few bars of MIDI. Still cant open up a PRV in any way, tried double clicking on the MIDI clip, right clicking and selecting, menu view option, absolutely nothing. I am totally baffled. In all other respects the install etc seemed to go perfectly, all other features / views appear to be working and no crashes whatsoever. Any suggestions anyone?

Well heres what happened, it was opening but as a minutely shrunken window way up in the top corner of my second monitor. Obviously all subsequent attempts to open a PRV were ignored as there was already one 'open' - albeit barely visible - problem solved and now I can start to look at the smart tool in PRV - Phew !

I spent just a small amount of time with X1, and it seems to "sound" better. Although this could be because of my recent purchase of a new computer (x64) and that Im recording at a higher bit rate.

Two "weird" things are happening..that I cant figure out.

I exported a stereo wave file of a quick mix to test. I "imported" it to trim, eq, etc. There is no "picture" of the wave file. I thought X1 always shows the track view by default....the Track shows in console view only.
Anyone else experiencing loss of "wave" pic?

I also have to press F1 two or three time to bring up "help".

    Re:Cant get PRV in Multidock ? 2010/12/15 14:35:40 (permalink)
The new PRV is driving me a little batty.  According to the helpfile, double clicking on a clip should bring it up in non-Inline PRV, but it brings up staff view instead.  When I use Alt-3 to open it as Inline PRV, it opens up minimized in the multidock.  I'd really like it to open up maximized fullscreen, not in the dock at all.

If I make it floating, it messes up the layout for my track view, resizing track view to a third of the screen.

The subwindow open/close maximize don't seem to follow any pattern.  ALT-F4 is usually Windows standard to close the entire app, but there seems to be a mix of CTRL-F4 to close some floating windows and ALT-F4 to close other subwindows.  I just want to close a subwindow and keep getting prompted to save the file when I use CTRL-F4 - meaning Sonar or the entire project is going to be closed.  I would like to get some predictability here - don't have us use ALT-F4 to close subwindows EVER.   If I click on the upper left of a floating maximized PRV window, the shortcut to close shows as CTRL-F4, but that method doesn't prompt me to save my work and simply closes the subwindow. Same holds for using the PRV window's "X" in the upper right. If I use the CTRL-F4, Sonar attempts to save and close out of the project.

Is there a simple way to pop up a maximized PRV for a clip and a single keystroke (escape, perhaps) to CLOSE (not minimize to dock, not resize--CLOSE the PRV subwindow).  The old way of toggling it on and off using ALT-5, was so elegant--the dock actually seems silly for this.  I don't want some old PRV from a clip I worked on an hour ago to stay open on the dock in case I might need that exact edit again.  If I need that, I can open a fresh one.  Because of the buggy subwindow close assignment, there is no mouse-free way to close these PRV subwindows.
