Can't get any sound

I just installed X1 on a laptop and have been unable to get a sound. Although I have had cakewalk software through a few versions, this is the first time circumstances have not scuttled my time and or resources to really work with the program. It stinks to still be a newbie after shelling out the money over the years.

I acquired an A-800Pro controller and tinkered with it and couldn't get a sound. I didn't expect to get it to work yet but thought I would tinker.

I started working with the X1 getting started tutorials. I got as far as the "Setting The Tracks Output" section, where I am supposed to be able to expand a track to make all of it's controls visible.

It's easy to expand the view in a couple different ways but there is no drop-down list for output.  There is the instrument row, the clips row and then nothing. Where is the drop-down list for output? I hope once it's found, I will finally get audio. BTW, I am currently just using the stock soundcard that came in the laptop, since I'm not trying to record at the moment but just get stuff to play.

OK, I found sound on my USB mixer. I guess the on board soundcard is useless even for playback
