Can't get sound on audio/mic track

Hello.

I am re-opening a song to fix some vocals and when i get my mic set up and everything plugged in and inputs set there is no sound making it to my sound card.

What am I not connecting?

Thank you.

Check the outputs and all the different mixers that have volume/mute controls. Make sure speakers are on. Record on an audio track. The usual suspects.
So you're getting levels on the meters, a wave forms in the track, but you can't hear anything?

    You're scarin' me Rick.
If memory serves, you have a Xenyx802 in front of the E-MU, right? Check your Trim and Level controls. Check Panning.
If you are using a condenser mic, make sure phantom power is on. Are you getting a level at the main out of the mixer?
Check Patchmix. Are you using the setup that I outlined in the E-MU thread? Does anything show in the strip meters?
Did you save that as a Session? If it isn't working, you can try setting it to another session, then back to the one you want.
If you haven't used it for a while, sometimes it takes a little nudge to reset it.
Check your settings in MC. I/O, Playback/Record Timing Masters, etc.
Basically, trace the chain, and look for the missing link.
If you find something iffy, let us know.

    Hi Robert,
I've got an ART tube MP amp. All is as it should be there. I'm using the very same patchmix session i've been using all week and I've been doing vocals all week. Nothing shows on any meters any where- MC3 or E MU.
I'll take another pass at checking but the only difference between what i'm doing now and what i did yesterday is this tune is an old song and maybe there was a setting different somewhere.

    thank you!

If it was working yesterday, that's a good sign.
Check for Mutes/ Solo's on the tracks in the project. That one has gotten me more than once.

No mutes. I opened another project to see if it would work there and nothing there either.

OK. I have lost sound like that, no signal, nothing coming in, before. If every thing appears to be correct, close MC.
Open System Restore. Does it show an event yesterday? If so, restore to that point or the previous restore point.
I have done this on several occasions, and this always brings it back.
I only do this after making sure that everything looks like it should be operating properly, but isn't. It looks like you are at that point.

    OK.

I will try to restore to yesterday.

Make sure you speakers are not turned up.
When you do this, it'll ping your speakers when the drivers kick in.
    Good luck!

I found out as i was re examining my amp that it is a bad mic cable. It's shorted out.
i guess i have been coiling it too tightly when i close down.

Thanks for your help in trying to figure this out.
