Can't hear recorded track? solved.

I did a couple of tracks and opened a new one to do a solo.
I set a punch area, armed and hit R and I see the waves but when I stop it does not play back and is sort of grayed out. Some of them had a little red circle with a line thru it but the latest one doesn't.
I've been trying out preferences/recording for options with no luck so far.
I now have it on "overwrite", Allow arm changes, Only for inputs, Auto punch, Store on single track and create new layer on overlap.(what ever that is)

Sounds like you might have "Mute Previous Takes" checked under the Auto Punch option or some other muting going on. If the track you're not hearing has the red circle, right click and select "Clip Mute/Unmute" from the menu. Also check whether your layers are muted by turning on "Track Layers" in Track View.

I've seen this mentioned in several posts. I haven't experienced it myself but it seems there may be a bug that applies a mute similar to one that the mute tool does on a clip.

Try sweeping it with the mute tool (press F10 twice) and see if you can unmute it that way. If you can, or even if you can't for that matter but you can consistently reproduce it put a bug report in.

I don't believe you are seeing expected behaviour anyway.
