Cant hear sound on midi track but I got sound on Soft Synth track??

Hey guys, new to the forum. I have a Roland Fantom X7 hooked to Sonar 7 PE. I recorded a sample soft synth track using the Rapture64LE no problem. Then I added a midi track after that and I got no sound!
Input is Fantom X Omni
Output is Fantom X on Fantom X on channel 3 (which is what track I am on for that midi track)
I see the signal going up and down when I hit a key on the Fantom X7 but I hear nothing. Where am I going wrong?
                                         Thanks!!

the output on your midi should be on Rapture, not your controller. if you want to use the sound library from the Fantom then check once again that the midi output channel of sonar sees a midi in from the fantom that has a patch loaded. why don't you try omni just to make sure that everything works?

    sincerely,

Windows - some Dual Core CPU - a little bit of RAM - not so bad soundcard - i think it's called Sonar - a silver mixer with colorful knobs - black speaker monitors - my ears

    some work

If you don't have your audio outputs from the Roland wired to your interface you won't hear it.
To play back sound from an outboard device it has to have the MIDI out of the interface connected to it's MIDI in, Then the audio output carry on to you monitoring system which is either via a sub mixer or your interface.
Of course you know there's no audio transmitted though MIDI connection, only data.

Actually , you don't mention if you have an audio/midi interface.
Is the Fantom a USB connection?

Thanks guys, I've finally got it workin' now. And yes it's the USB connection via the Fantom as my interface.
