Can't record input from Maschine (2.2) into Cakewalk X3 (x3e)
Hi all, forgive me if this has been covered, I ran a search, but either the search is broken, or there were no topics on this.
Basically I want to record input from my Native Instruments Machine hardware. I am at the point where I can hit drum pads and hear sounds within Sonar, but when I start to record in Sonar, nothing gets recorded.
Has anyone else successfully integrated the two? Thanks for any guidance.

You must set up a midi template in the Controller Editor with the first 16 pads mapped starting from C1, and put the Maschine in Midi Mode. You must then set the Group in Maschine to receive Midi Input on Channel 1 and make it Active. Route a Midi Track in Sonar to Output to Maschine: Channel 1 and you should now be able to record and sequence directly into Sonar with Maschine. If that's confusing and no one answers by tomorrow morning I'll go more in depth to help you out. I'm not at the computer right now so I can't do it at the moment.

Quick followup - by Controller Editor, I assume you mean Sonar's? Native Instruments also has a controller editor...

Thanks FidelityMusic, I'm now able to record pads triggered off of Maschine into Sonar. My next issue, and I've tried a few different ways already, is to record more than 1 sound.
I cloned my midi input track from Maschine, set it to channel 2. I've set Controller Editor with all the pads corresponding to 16 different channels, but whichever pad is active is the sound that's being played. For example, I play a kick pattern. try to go to the next track to record a clap, but as soon as I press the clap pad, the kick pattern is triggering the clap sound.
My apologies if I'm being a complete idiot.

The channel numbers are used to control the entire Group/Kit, so don't set each Pad to correspond to a different channel or else you're going to have the problem you're currently having. Simply set the first Maschine Group to Input on Channel 1, and set the MIDI Track in Sonar to Output to Maschine on Channel 1. If you set the Maschine MIDI template in the Controller Editor to have your 16 pads trigger notes C1-D#2 you should be able to play and record all 16 sounds through that one MIDI Track in Sonar.

OK, got it, however, what if I want each pad to correspond to a different track? For mixdown purposes, different effect, etc? Thanks again.

http://screencast.com/t/tAB4JdVk That should help you with the individual output routing, have any questions just ask. NOTE: I start routing on Stereo Output 2 because the first Output is occupied by the Group itself and there's no way around it in Sonar.

Well, I've set everything up exactly like your video shows, changed back all the pads to ch. 1 in the Controller Editor and I still get only 1 sound at a time. Clearly, I'm still missing something.
Maschine must still be in Midi mode correct? Also, when I set the Group Input to ch. 1, if I make it active, I hear no sounds at all...
Feel free to answer at your leisure. I will continue to work through this. I really do appreciate all the help.

Controller Editor: Pad Bank A C1-D#2 Channel 1 Maschine Sofware: Open as a Simple Instrument in Sonar Load your kit on Group A1 Group > Input > "Active" > Channel 1 Sonar: Maschine Simple Instrument/MIDI Track routed to Maschine Channel 1 Maschine Hardware: Set it to MIDI Mode (Shift+F1 on the Maschine Mikro MK2) If that's what you've done in order then the pads should be triggering each sound individually.

Thanks again for all your help! Finally got it worked out. You're not going to believe this... all of the Note values in the Control Editor had dashes in them, like C-1, etc. I'm not exactly sure how that happened, because I don't recall changing those, but I tried so many things anything is possible. Long story short. I removed the dashes, and your setup works like a charm. Thanks man for your patience and your help!!!! If there's any way I can return your kindness...

Glad you got everything sorted, it was frustrating for me at first too. You can return the kindness by passing the information on to anyone else who needs it in the future, that's how we all get better.

Thanks my friend. It seems to be working but more info appears to be recording to the midi track in sonar than just the notes . Any ideas? Also, where yours says "Bank A" in the controller editor mine says "Pad Page A". Is this wrong?

I don't know why it would be recording anything other than the note and velocity data if the Type is set to "Note". Mine says "Bank A" because that's what I named it on the Pages tab.

It appears "Note" also sends aftertouch info. I unchecked it in Sonar preferences until I use a sound with aftertouch properties. Thank you, I'm good to go now.
