Cant record vocals straight to mono???

the recording master option only had 1-2 outputs for my interface guessing (mic/instrument) and the actual track options only give the 1-2 options. no single option, just so it detects the vocals like i want. so i getting just a stereo recording with vocals only in one headphone. Plus converting a stereo recorded thing to mono EVERYTIME. annoying plus other occurances etc. I have a MOTU audio express interface.  Any help??

Chose a mono input on your sound card. That's the input your mic is plugged into and you can record mono vocals and mono tracks until the cows come home and they hardly ever come home.

If you select a mono input in Sonars track input menu, you will record mono.
