Carlos ?

Hey there

Does anyone have any settings they might share for TH3 that produce a Santana tone?

I don't have any preset recommendations. but I know of a great virtual guitar that emulates  a Santana style sound, including an infinite sustain/feedback.  It's by Orange Tree Samples, and it's part of their Evolution series, called Evolution Infinity.
I have all of the Evolution series guitars, and I never have to bother with TH3 or any amp modelling software again.
The Evolution guitars have loads of presets, as well as built in efx and amps.   I've also been seeking a Santana sound for a long time, and I finally found it with this guitar.

I *think* this preset pack is still available, and IIRC this is just a set of presets, so the "full" requirement would be to use any amps/FX the presets may be using.

I think Santana guitar tone is a mix of the guitar he uses the Paul Reed Smith Santana MD, Carlos personal touch on strings and fretboard and some compressor hand made for him for long time sustain. The amplifier is indifferent.

The guitar amp is the most important part.

If you are looking at his modern tone (which isn't very good...though he is a great player). Message Boogie or Dumble ODS. Lots of compression and saturation on tap.

PRS or SG type of guitar. And of course his touch (which isn't something you can buy)

I agree the amp is important. There’s a Premier Guitar rig rundown of one of his setups on youtube.

Any humbucker equipped guitar with vintage rather than hot output into a Boogie combo with the mids boosted rather than massively cut or a Dumble ODS, again with plenty of mids should get into the right sort of area. Failing that maybe a Fender combo and a smooth and sustaining kind of fuzz, maybe a Big Muff with the amp mids boosted to counter the Muff’s mid cut for the lead sound.

It might be an idea to add a compressor to compensate for not being able to get a guitar-amp-speaker-guitar sustaining feedback loop going. From what I’ve heard about his rigs he’s not a quiet guitarist.

Interestingly, I've been trying to get a Joe Satriani lead tone (you know that phat/juicy lead tone ) in TH3......of course, playing like Joe is a whole different story.
