Rikkie Hi Walt I just use a lot of reverb to hide a multitude of (guitar) sins ; ) I enjoyed your tune and e****ially the flute ! If I have one criticism it's the drums, I would lose them altogether but that's just me, i don't like drums. Rik
I doubt you're hiding nearly as much as I am. :) Besides which, reverb (in the amounts you typically use) doesn't hide nearly as much as this (which was the actual effects stack I used on my guitar solo in this song):

Guitarhacker Good tune. So many different textures in there. That keeps it interesting. Nice addition there by CM, love that clean tone..
Thanks Herb! I tried to move things around a bit in this one. I wanted it to be more of a "journey" rather than a single statement. My biggest concern was that it wouldn't all quite hang together.

I'm not sure how you'd even use three reverbs together. You mean in series, for multiplying the depth of the effect more than just one could do? What kind of reverb do you use?

Hi Walt, just a joke ; ) I'm not an engineer, just a guitarplayer thet likes a lot of reverb. But I do use two reverbs. I use the sonitus reverb as an insert on an ambient setting, mostly early reflections, with the mix setting at about 15 % wet. And at the same time I use breverb, Segovia preset is a nice one,as a send. Don't know if that makes sense, but I like how it sounds. Rik

Ah, thanks Rik. Sorry for being gullible. :) I use breverb as well, on my master out bus.

Very clean, a lot going on and you managed to keep the individual tracks isolated. I am listening in headphones I really like the panning...The vibrato in the beginning reminded me of the Eagles I wish you peace. It started like that...But you backed off quickly. I like it! Superb mix/mastering!

Thanks Pat, I appreciate you taking the time to listen and comment! That beginning part you mentioned is the AAS Lounge Lizard's Tremolo (on the BFly Rhodes setting). I'm sure the Eagles were using a "real" rhodes, but they sure sound similar. ;)

The nice thing about keys is? Well? "Everything..." You can slow them down, you can speed them up, you can edit them, you can quantitize them, you can add fills? You can do whatever you want... The bad thing is that if you have OCD like me? You will sit and fiddle with it "for hours..." The cool thing is, when you bounce it? It sounds the way you want it to sound :-) Love the keys...

Thanks for listening Don! Yeah, I love that flute (shakuhachi) sound too. It's so real sounding, and expressive. It's a Kontakt sample. Kontakt is awesome, and can do so many things well. I'm trying desperately not to overuse it (the shakuhachi sound), but it's already found its way into some other song ideas I'm working on. As for listening to more of my music, there are several more posted up on soundcloud if you're interested. :) The two links in my signature show a lot of what I've done recently.

I liked this tune, Walt! You have a good control over the realistic sounds (flutes etc) so they really sound realistic. I got an early jazzy Level42/Koinonia vibe here? Good choice of bass sound and the drums sound amazing. Excellent smooth guitar play by ClintMartin too, really fits the song perfect.

Yeah, I think I'll have to "hire" Mick Fleetwood again soon. ;) Those drums sure do sound good. As for the bass, I don't usually select an acoustic bass sound but for this piece I was going for "retro jazzy" in keeping with the selection of the Mick drum tracks. The string bass gives it some jazz authenticity, I hope. Thanks for listening, and for your compliments about Clint's and my playing. I can't take too much credit to be honest, because Kontakt (and the shakuhachi patch itself) really makes it easy to sound good. Of course, I totally agree about Clint's guitar lead. He kicked my a$$ there. :)

Walt, So far, as I'm listening, the first think I notice is the drums sound like they are on a different stage/space. That da da da da da daaaaaa (synth or sax?) seems a bit too much (for me) then the (synth?) solo is just a tad to loud compared to the first guitar solo. Then the clean solo seems to loud compared to the first guitar solo section. Final fade seems abrupt. Other than those personal taste items, great piece.

Thanks for listening, and for your comments, Ed. You may be right about the drum reverb, especially considering the "inherent" reverb on the synth leads early in the song, as well as the rhodes. Maybe the drums need some more wetness to join all the other stuff. You're probably also right about the first guitar lead being lower than the other leads. That's me being self-conscious about my guitar playing! I should probably turn it up a little, to elevate it to the level of the other leads. The ending isn't exactly a fade... it's more that parts start dropping out until the flute, bass, and rhodes play the final note. I guess I could extend it one more set of 16 measures to let people get used to the wind-down as it's happening, rather than just wondering where all the parts went. You're right about that too. It does seem a bit rushed, and thus, confusing. Great comments, thanks Ed. :)

Thanks so much Bob! To be honest, the "journey" kind of just happened that way, due to my still-evolving songwriting process. One of the things I'm finding in doing solo writing/performing is that there's nobody to play off of, so it's much harder to develop a song in the same organic way I'd previously done working in a band with other people. It requires a lot of iteration this way, having to go back and redo earlier parts that were put in to keep time or setup the main groove, etc. And then it's easy to go too far and lose something simple that was already cool. Anyway, I'm still working on my "process" for synth music, but I think this one came out pretty well, and I'm glad you've enjoyed it! You've inspired me as well with your album release, and your persistent follow-up here on the forums to promote it. Motivation can often be hard to come by, but you always seem like you have a lot of energy, Bob. I salute you for it.
