Chameleon's Reflection- X1 and Ozone 5- AMP SIM???

All my work is done with Sonar X1 (now X2) and Ozone 5.  Here's my latest attempt-  A remake of an old Herbie Hancock tune. (Herbie's was called "Chameleon".)

Enjoy.

By the way... thanks to my brother Richard for that fantasic guitar solo and the idea for this tune.  He also played bass and a couple of synth parts.  A truly "brotherly" collaboration!!

    Cheers!

Just finished listening to this and wow! Great production and musicianship. I will now give a lot more consideration to purchasing Ozone 5, although I know it's not a cure-all. Great work, Tony!

Thanks guys.  Guitarhacker-  My brother and I spend more time on tone than anything else.  LOL  Luke-  You can do A LOT with Ozone 4, so don't feel rushed to buy it...however, the GUI is MUCH improved in 5.

    Cheers!

Oh...by the way....thought I'd mention that the funky little rhythm guitar chops are coming from NI's "Funk Guitarist" plugin.  It's a little complicated to use, but sounds great!  This was my first attempt at using it.  I haven't heard anyone ever mention using it.
Also, I used Guitar Rig 5 in this tune.  I use it differently than many other folks... I usually mic up my amp and record a guitar part, then run that clip through Guitar Rig.  The wahwah guitar part was done this way. (The clip is straight clean guitar.)  So were the 2 guitars in the intro (me on the left, bro on the right).  The short solo at the end is me again using this technique.
The main guitar solo by my brother is a straight guitar/amp/mic (Prestige Heritage Hollow guitar/Egnater Tweaker amp)....with a stomp box or 2.

Just passing a little info on to fellow guitar players here.  Happy weekend!

    Cheers!

There's been a lot of chat in the Forum recently about "good guitar tone" and the use of amp sims vs mic'ing up amps.

Just for info and a comparison, this tune uses both methods.  The main guitar solo around 3:15 is just guitar and Egnator Tweaker amp (with a distortion stomp box) being mic'd with an SM57 at the cone center but off axis.  The only Sonar effect was the delay.

All the other guitar parts were recorded by mic'ing the amp, but running that recorded part through Guitar Rig... thus the auto-wah parts, and ethereal tone in the beginning, and the bluesy tone at the end.  So this is a "hybrid" method of using an amp sim demo.

And as I mentioned in my previous post, the funky rhythm guitar is actually NI's "Funk Guitarist" plugin.

    Cheers!
