Changing Time signatures...
OK... I have a problem...well ...lots of problems actually..but....among all the others...only this one fits this forum... A user sent me a project to add drums & bass to his guitars and midi pad track.... no problem, I thought... Well turns out the project is in 3/4 time at 120 BPM and really needs to be in 4/4 at a much slower BPM (as of now...undetermined BPM). Some copy/paste into a new project did not solve the problem....changing the BPM did not solve the problem..... so... unless there is a relatively quick & easy fix... he will have to rerecord the tracks at the proper BPM in 4/4. Background: he recorded at 3/4/ 120bpm because that "felt" right to him, and he was having problems following the metronome at 4/4 120. any thought? is it...FIX...or...REDO? also: didn't somebody post a link to a plugin that determined the bpm of audio files?

I think I have solved the problem... here's the fix... Don't assume. Yeah it was that simple.... The original song was 3/4 @ 110bpm I opened a new project which defaults to 4/4 time @ 120bpm I assumed (bad thing to do) that if I halved the bpm to 60 everything would synch up nice and sweet....problem was I assumed that the BPM was correct...when there was a 5bpm descrepency between the two projects.... result: music & beats out of sync and quickly getting worse as the project ran. I happened to look and realized the oversite on my part... changed the new project to 55 bpm and so far so good...

Time sigs can be frustrating when trying to add to someone elses projects.I use different sigs all the time and when i send to someone else for adds they ask what time are you using, most can tell by listening.I just give them all the info BPM's etc....I was sent one file that drove me nuts couldnt get the time right, was sooo frustrating.i finally got it after an hour. Thanks Mr.Strummer for that link, will def help in the future!!!!!!

ORIGINAL: cato54321 Thanks Mr.Strummer for that link, will def help in the future!!!!!! A pleasure Rick. One thing to mention though is it does struggle with with a song that has more than one tempo - however, if you split off small parts of the song and feed them separately, it will find the bpm's for each part. Also, as far as I can tell, it only calculates the bpm, not the time signature. Steve

Allow me to clarify a bit... I have patience in many areas of my life...especially when it comes to family...I have a wife & 2 teenage daughters...I have learned to be patient...out of necessity..... but I still like to see things move along at a nice clip.... towards a goal or destination.

Not only have I learned patience in many ways from having daughter and a wife.... I have also learned NOT, to take personally, and be offended by, comments made by others.... most of the time....
