Changing a tempo mid song

I bought Sonar X1 Producer a long time ago and never used it.  I have time now.
I know you have all upgraded a gazillion times. I just need help changing a tempo mid-song for the rest of the song.

I hit "ctr" and  "a"
Project
insert temp change
enter new speed  (e.g. 140 to 95)
click "insert a new tempo"

PROBLEM: the tempo changes from 140 to 95 for 2 measures and then goes back to 140

please help...

thank you for your time and patience.
Tish

First, check the tempo map to ensure no rogue tempo change is inserted at the point it reverts back to 140.

Just FYI, unexpected, superfluous tempo entries often result from copy-pasting. Use Paste Special (Ctrl+Alt+V) once to open the options dialog and uncheck Tempos; the change will persist to subsequent 'non-Special' pastes until changed again.

my advise is to look at the tempo map view:
    Views/Tempo Map:

    Read more here:
    https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR%20X2&language=3&help=Arranging.45.html
    and here:
    https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR X3&language=3&help=Arranging.52.html

this will give you a better idea if something else was inserted that you were unaware of.
why are you clicking A ? are these audio tracks?

    * if its all midi OR your laying out a tempo map for a new song, you don't need to do that, just right click on the time line where you want the change and select "Insert new tempo".
