Changing overall tempo after adding variations...

Is there a way to move an entire tempo envelope up or down like with clip envelopes? I've spent hours setting up several subtle tempo changes and of course now I think the whole song should be a little slower overall. So I'd like to keep all the relative tempo variations i drew and just drag the whole envelope down a few bpm. I can't find a way to do this...Please let there be a way!!! Edit: This is mainly pertaining to MIDI tracks, but what happens to any non-loop audio if the tempo is changed after recording vocals?

I don't know of a way to do this.  The tempo events don't have the flexibility of normal envelopes.  I wish they did.  You can however change an audio clip's length to match a different time (I forgot how - something like holding Ctl down while adjusting the end of the clip?)  It may introduce some artifacts so be careful with that.  It would be cool if you could change the tempo and have the audio clips stretch automatically by themselves - there may be a way to do that..not sure.

CAL script? You would have to have sonar producer.

Sorry, forgot to mention it's X1 Producer. The closest thing I could find is the Fit To Time dialog, but that's not quiiite it.

There is a scale tempo cal script. I can't confirm it will do exactly what you're asking but you can find it here:

Hey peregrine—thanks for that link! There's a lot of intriguing and potentially helpful scripts on there!

I tried to use the scale tempo on a track with varying tempos and all I get is "Invalid Value". This is after highlighting the tempos list in the tempo view and selecting CAL script 'scale tempo' as downloaded from above, then scale tempo say 120. Anyone else try this yet?

Not surprising. If its using FitToTime and calculating out of range, it may not handle the error very well. Try Process-FitToTime and enter a new end time that changes the tempo by the percentage you want. If that gives you an error, you'll know for certain. He could stretch the audio file, but I don't think that's what he wants. Incidentally, I use Cubase for this process routinely. I'm sure other DAW packages treat tempo as a track that can be edited like this. Cakewalk just left it off the todo list.

BINGO- Fit to time WORKS. No CAL script needed. Highlight the areas you wanna change the tempo, then Process, Fit to time. Select Modify by changing the "tempo map". (you can also enable stretch audio; before changing the tempo map I personally would enable audio stretch 'clip follows project tempo' and select the desired offline algo for each clip separately). THEN, if you want your project 10% faster tempo with your pre-done variations, and your projects thru time is 3min (180 sec.) So 180 sec * 90% = 162 sec or 2 min and 42. TYPE or mouse your NEW thru time in the 'ADJUST TO END AT NEW TIME- New Thru time ______. This Works!

Thanks for all the input! I did experiment with Fit To Time before starting the original thread, but after doing (or trying to do) the math—not my strong suit—I thought someone might know a way of just dragging the tempo envelopes up or down as one. Like the track envelopes. Guess I'll head over to the Feature Request page...

Just try it, if you want it speed up just put an earlier time in the New Thru. All of the tempo map drawings will essentially go up just as if you had envelope nodes and dragged 'em up. I requested tempo map envelope adjustments awhile back. Maybe they'll listen. :)
