Changing the Shared Components Folder

Hi all,

It's been a while since I've been on - hell Sonar must be working ok for me then.

Problem I have at the moment is. I've got a live PC that I run Cantibile (live performance software) on. I use some of the VST plugins that come with Sonar 7. I initially installed the system with 2 drives but later I changed the case and took it down to 1 drive with one partition.

The problem I have now is that I originally installed all the VST stuff from the Sonar 7 disc onto the D: drive which no longer exists. How can I change the Shared Components Folder which is locked to the D:\ drive ? It's greyed out during the install process. I've tried uninstalling all the Sonar stuff. No go as it remembers my serial number and everything else once I reinstall.

Final solution would be to split the C: drive into 2 partitions and rerun a D: drive but that's going to cost some drive management software I dare say.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

- Steve R.

Hi Steve-
I've tried uninstalling all the Sonar stuff. No go as it remembers my serial number and everything else once I reinstall.

That's not a complete uninstall, then. You have to clean out some registry entries as well.

If you don't have any other CW products that use their shared folders, you can remove SONAR completely using the following procedure (this is for Windows XP; change details as required):

- Go to Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs and uninstall <SONAR> [whatever version]
- When prompted to "Remove Shared Files?", click "Yes to All"
- Go to Start | Run, and type "regedit"
        - To be safe, BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY before proceeding!
        - Navigate to HKEY_Current_User\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\ and delete the "<version>" key
        - Navigate to HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\ and delete the "<version>" key
- Open Windows Explorer
        - Navigate to C:\Program Files\Cakewalk
        - Verify that the <SONAR> directory has been removed
        - Open the Shared Utilities folder and delete PluginManager.exe and VstScan.exe
        - Navigate to %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Cakewalk and delete the "<SONAR>" directory if it exists
        - Navigate to %APPDATA%\Cakewalk and delete the "<SONAR>" directory

Your a champion Susan,

It was the registry info that needed deleting.

Thanks you very much !
