Channel Tools has stopped working *** SOLVED ***
No function whatsoever. And the GUI looks kind of weird - all the controls respond but they look a bit "greyed out" and like I said, there's absolutely no function from it. Now the one on my laptop installation works fine, so I copied the dll over to my main rig but there's no change, which sort of points finger to a possible deeper problem in my main rig with X2a. So, any ideas anyone? I use CT in nearly every project for placing stereo stuff where I want it, it's indispensable. Thanks, Jonesey

Have you accidentally made the track mono? It will only work on stereo tracks.

I never liked channel tools. It always lies to me anyway. Checking the mix in mono was a disaster because anything I had channel tools on, went away.

I'm a Channel Tools fan. Lots of helpful stuff can be accomplished easily with it.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

No phase invert button pressed. I just could never grow to like what it does.

All it does is place a stereo sound wherever you want in the stereo field - and it has good M/S implementation. I think it's an extremely useful addition to the toolbox. Put it this way, if Sonar didn't have one, I would definitely have to think about a 3rd party solution. The problem you describe about listening in mono sounds like it could have arisen from CT on a track in MS mode with the middle severely attenuated

im a channel tools junky myself, critical for bringing a tracks that's buried in a mix out in the open. when frequency's are being hogged up in the spectrum and you run out of panning options it works great. your not alone on this one thought bj, this happen to me for the first time a few weeks ago, it took me awhile to figure out it was a mono source.

I read, or heard, somewhere that keeping the correlation between 0 and +1 is desirable. I believe it was an Izotope PDF or video. It's been a while. Anytime I use CT or Mid/Side processing, the correlation starts to hang around 0. I just tested this with projects I'm getting ready for a cd. I had used mid/side and another CTs like vst, Quad Image from IK and the correlation was off. I took those processes out and re-mixed them. Just using panning and EQ, I was able to achieve the same results but the correlation was where it should be. Also, listening in mono sounded much better. I'll test them again at the mastering stage and see what happens. Maybe it's intended use is there?

Mid/Side processing alone shouldn't change what you see on the correlation meter, because it doesn't alter phase. Of course, any mono-compatibility problems that already exist can be exaggerated by raising the gain on the Side component. That's probably what's happening. Channel Tools does have a much-abused preset called "Increased Width". What this does is add a 20ms delay to the right channel, emulating the Haas Effect. It shouldn't introduce mono-compatibility problems, but if you were to reduce the delay you'd likely hear some comb filtering when you folded it to mono. There is another preset called "Kill Center" that most definitely causes problems and makes things disappear because it inverts the phase of the right channel. Although CT is useful for special effects (some not mono-compatible), the only time you really SHOULD use it is for stereo panning. Never use the Pan slider to position a stereo track; always use Channel Tools to do that. It will not have any negative impact on your audio unless the track has already been screwed up by some other processor.

Maybe I'm using it wrong then. I'll have to do some more experimenting. I've used it in the bus for widening, or narrow, them but not on a track to position instruments.
