Ch-ch-ch-changes
My trusty Yamaha PSR-GX 76 finally gave up the ghost.
The sound was intermittently cutting out for about a year. The power supply died a few months ago and I've been using batteries since then. Now the sound is very distorted, if it works at all. I installed new batteries, but that didn't help.
I did a little research (very little) looking for a new keyboard to replace it. I wanted cool sounds and MIDI connections (which eliminated any modern PSR series 'boards) and decided on a Yamaha MX 49.
Picked it up at GC on Tuesday and am really liking the noises it makes, but integrating it into my DAW and the way I've been working for the last 13 years is going to be challenging.
About my DAW: it's a 12 year-old XP machine with SHS 6 XL on it, and the computer is getting increasingly cranky; I often have to restart it several times for the QWERTY keyboard and mouse to work. Plus, the Focusrite drivers sometimes don't load until I unplug it and plug it back in.
I'm about ready to begin using this box as my DAW, with 64-bit Win 10 and SONAR X3 on it. More research will be needed to get the FireWire card working, as so far I've had no luck with it. An outlay of cash may be needed.
So, I'll be trying to get devices to work, while also learning a new program and keyboard.
See you next spring!
