Hope everyone enjoys this. It's my partner Kai's tribute to her Mother-in law, who passed last year. That's Kai doing the spoken word near the end. Fiddler John Atherton does the solo violin. It's me and MIDI on everything else. Done in Sonar 8.5 PE.

Tributes are always nice to do, and the loss of a loved one is always frustrating and confusing as they will be missed. The song is nice but maybe just needs a thing or two with the mix. Maybe a soft knee, a bit of compression and final it out with some limiting. You decide, but try and keep the vocals up front the best you can.

Mix needs more space. Except for the drums, everything sounds like it is right down the middle. Drums are very thin sounding. Your voice is fine, and the guitar is present, if a touch brittle. With a few tweaks, this would be fine!

I like the vocal in this because it has raw emotion, much like some of Neil Young's early songs.  What I like about listening to your songs is that I never know what I'll get.  I like being surprised.  Nice tribute.

    All the best,

Hi Joe, nice tribute, the spoken word passage could be a bit louder imho. I'm not a fan of the violin solo's tuning and timing, sorry.

I understand. the fiddler I work with is great at knowing lots of old-timey tunes but not so good at improvising. I had to splice that together. I think I did a miracle considering what he left me to work with.

My first exposure to your music. I liked this. The tribute was fitting.
