Chimaera (an ambient collaboration)

Hi Peeps,

I know I'm going to be pushing it with this one... It weighs in at a hefty 14 minutes and it's more in the vein of incidental noises with just a hint of tone here and there.

I guess you would have to be familiar with early Tangerine Dream (Zeit/Atem) to be even remotely interested in this.

But I have to post this because it represents a big step for me in terms of the creation process and I want to shout out about it.

No pressure then, I totally understand if this doesn't get any listens or comments

I had already done a couple of collaborations with two separate SoundCloud artists. I asked them if they fancied doing a three way collaboration. We agreed to create and share two ten minute tracks each. No formal agreements were made as to the content of the tracks... No BPM or song key (as strange as that may sound for something like this).

For my version I dragged all six tracks into Sonar and then went ahead and added lots of fader automation in order to thin out the cacophony of sound and produce something that now sounds, in places, minimal.

More details of the collaboration can be found on the SoundCloud song page.

So, without further ado, I give you Chimaera (a three headed mythical creature):-

cheers, and thanks in advance for your valued time

This one has more of a 'horror' vibe to it Andy (if you don't mind me saying) - some quite eerie moments.
An amazing soundscape.

Hi Daryl,

Thanks for listening

......what I mean is that I always see video with your stuff. I usually see sci-fi/space related. This one would be great for a horror/thriller.

This is a great atmospheric piece Andy and friends, floating, skimming, in a state of suspended motion, looking in to a large, dark rectangular monolith that was fall of stars and then............

Brilliant stuff Andy definitely worthy of

Ah! Right... Got that Daryl

I'm still on the lookout for a film producer willing to let me loose on something... I have a musical friend who is always knocking out film scores for all sorts of movie genres... Perhaps I ought to rekindle that acquaintance

It sounds like a good backdrop for a space movie or sci fi thriller.

Andy
As I was listening I got an image of the dawn of man scene from "2001", where the mysterious monolith drops in on a group of pre-humans. I hadn't read any other comments before listening so kind of interesting that Wookie apparently made a similar connection.

You could probably make a slide show or video using NASA images of space objects (which I think are free) and put your compositions on the sound track. Just an idea.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Bjorn,

Thanks for giving this one a go

I think my main problem with creating slide shows and videos is mainly time. Perhaps one day I should give it a go though... See what comes out

Cheers, and thanks again,

I liked it...      I don't know how you have the patience add and fine-tune all of the details to make these pieces work, but you're doing it.    That was a great use of 14 minutes.

Great sound design!!  Enjoyed listening to this.  I found it somewhat soothing.

Is there some faint dialogue in the background between the 3:00 and 4:00 min. mark (and again at around 8:00)?  Subliminal messages maybe?

Hi Steve

Thanks yet again for supporting me in my efforts to entertain

Twas interesting to do this piece, for sure, seeing as I only created a third of the tracks used in it.

Thanks again for listening, I really appreciate it.

cheers

Hi Frank

Thanks so much for listening to this, I really appreciate your time, especially on longer pieces like this.

I think I know what you mean by faint dialogue, but I think it has been created by an effect called Tantra. I can't be entirely certain because this was a collaboration and that particular track was by one of the other two guys.
