Chopped & Screwed

Well I produce hip-hop music. I don't even know if people are familiar with the technique now commonly used in hip-hop. It is labeled "Chopped & Screwed" were they slow down the lyrics and make it sound like a drunken cookie monster or something. I don't even know how to break that effect down with my tools i have now. I was asking if anybody has information on how to get a software to acutally make that sound come to life? I really have great ideas for this type of effects...its just brings the aggressivness in one party song fa me lol. Please reply back

    Tony,
There are different ways to go about doing this. What software do you currently have. Do you have turntables, or some type of editing software? Im using a program called Cool Edit Pro but its called something else right now (i think its called adobe something of the other) Anyway i use CEP to pitch some of my samples. You can also drop each one of the those pitched samples into a track session to create the chop effect, but i know its not correct way to do. Its basically a work around for me when im slowing down a sample, but i havent tried doing both the chop and screwed method.

Software:HS2004XL, Cool Edit Pro 2, Reason 3, Recycle, Nu Jointz
    Midi controller:Maudio 49e, Frontier Tranzport
    Soundcard:Emu 1820
    Monitors:Maudio Bx8
    HP: 1GB Ram,160 Gb hard drive, 320Gb ext drive XP,Pentium 4 processer 2.93 GHz 1mb L2 Cache 533

I use the new SONAR 6. I tired V-Vocal, but it seems too basic to acheive that type of chopped & screwed vocal processing. Maybe I don't know how to use it well lol. I just downloaded a demo version called "ScrewLab" which acheives that type of sound. But I really don't want to pay MORE for an effect that I know I can acheive in my software with different plug ins. Any help?

In FL Studio, just take the wav and drag it out to the desired "screwedness" - the longer you drag out the way, the further you slow it down. Simple as that. For choping, (remember to do this part after you strech it), just use FL's cut tool, and cut sections (like a word on a hit you want to repet once or twice). This is easy too, just cut before and after the part you want, paste it as many times as you want *(copy in FL is just by clicking on it - paste is just let of, and click again)* *(It's because of how simple it is in FL Studio to do this, I mentioned using it, and not Cakewalk software)*

When I open the FL Studio, and open the certain vocal strip, how do I even get inot the "screwdness" parameters lol? I never used this software and it would be a pain if the functions I want to do it RIGHT IN MY FACE and I'm still struggling to do it lol

Like I said, strech the wav.

(grab it from the end, and strech it)

When I strech the wav........I just just export that to a wav but a chopped and screwed version and then take any parts I want? What about that delay effect......when it repeats itself and whatnot? I thought their was a specific type of software for that type of vocal capture u know.

The dely like I had in that example on the vocals ? I just put the song under the song, made the second wav unique, moved it off time SLIGHTLY, and automated the volume on it.

Repeating itself isn't a dely, its coped, pasted, and then let the song go again. Hence the word "chopped".

So basic copy/paste is in order huh? Seems simple. Is their software other than FL Studio to get the chopped and screwed effect?

FL Studio has free upgrades for life. But what you want to do can be done in 4. Use the bottom of the "Play List" (PL) window.
