Chris Squire
Hi, In case you missed it, or you don't care, there is a post on the YES webpage that Chris has Cancer and that Billy Sherwood will replace him during the tour this year and the Cruise one as well. I guess that we all go at one time or another, but seeing one of our friends that we have grown up with for so long, and appreciated his playing ... this is sad! And yeah ... like him or not, he is good! (I could write "was" ... !!!) Get better Chris, and hope to see you again!

Oh no... I got to see him twice. On the Close to the Edge tour and the 2002 tour both with Wakeman, they KILLED both times. On the CTTE tour a new band called the Eagles opened for them. Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for CTTE and Chastain Park Amphitheater for the 2002. The Muni was a really good venue but it is gone the way of the rest of the good sounding concert halls. Arenas and small clubs now.. but I digress. I appreciate the sad news. Maybe there is a way to send a card. J

Hi, Saw him again, here in Oregon at the Casino near Portland. It was an OK show, though I did not care for the singer and his "stock" poses and arm gestures. I thought that was thoroughly unprofessional considering the musical abilities behind him! However, I would be more critical, with my "director's eye" and ability when seeing something like that ... I would never allow that to happen, specially to such a huge band! But it tells you how far the "pop" (as in popular) thing has come, and sometimes it is not about the ability and how to make it better and clearly presentable, instead of cardboard replicas. The playing and interplay between Chris and Steve was excellent, and I would gladly would take an hour of both of them alone just ripping up the walls and throwing any color paint at the walls! First saw them in 1972 or 3 ... have to check ... when they played "Tales of Topographic Oceans" at the Long Beach Arena, and when the show was over, I had tears in my eyes. I knew that I would never again in my whole life, see something that excellent and that valuable in music, and that even fewer people would appreciate its strength and beauty. On the better side of things, when I saw King Crimson with 3 drummers in Seattle last year, it was the greatest single concert I have ever seen in my life, and you can tell they went after it as if this was classical music and the best there is. It was downright inspirational and exciting, just like I felt that night at the Long Beach Arena. Those are the two concerts that matter the most to my life!

I think the site has a comments section ... I would send a card to their offices.

Ironically, the only time I've seen Chris Squire was when he was supporting the promotion of this incredible female drummer. They were playing live in some club around the L.A. area and there were a lot of sponsors and other music industry types there to watch. She was very, very good and her drum solo sent shivers down my spine (in a good way) - never had that happen before or since. Of course, that was back in the 80's so I have no idea who she was or if she "made it" anywhere. Oh well.

Yeah, I saw this sad news a few days ago. Hope he's continues to be the surviver that he's always been.

Hmm... I might just have to listen to this later today! Along with his fairly new one that he did with Steve Hackett about three years ago.

Since I couldn't decide whether I preferred to listen to FOOW on my vinyl or CD copy, I decided to go obscure instead (did I really just say that in a thread started by Pedro?):

FYI - from a discussion of Chris' health on the Chris Squire and Yes Forum over at Rickresource: http://www.rickresource.c...7&start=15#p839059 An update from Jon 'Juano' Davison's FB page: "Hi everyone, As most of you already know, Chris Squire, our dear friend and amazing bandmate is battling Leukemia. Please try and remember his struggle daily and hold his image in the healing light of your deepest prayers and brightest thoughts. We've been hearing encouraging news that he's responding really well to the treatment and we can all continue to make a big difference in his state of being by persistently wishing him much serenity, love, great courage, and the strength to endure all that is temporarily blocking his path to perfect health! SO, HIGH VIBRATION GO ON AND ONWARD THROUGH THE NIGHT, OUR AWESOME FRIEND AND MIGHTY MASTER OF THE BASS GUITAR! WE LOVE YOU AND ARE BEHIND YOU MORE THAN EVER!!!"

Hi, I actually hope he makes it through and is capable of doing one or two more tours. he is a very good player, and very nice to watch, but I wish there was more music in the band to stretch him even further and help the music get better. I'm thinking that after this and some rest, he will likely have some very good material to work from and with, that could re-vitalize the "has-been" band of yesterday's hits. We all hope for the best I'm sure! Specially given how harsh that thing can be.
