Christian song I played On...
Something a little different, this song was written by a talented young British composer called Edwin Fawcett. He is quite well known on the Catholic youth circuit, and has a couple of CDs available. He was also involved in the music at Hyde Park during the Pope's visit to the UK last year. Anyhow, in a few months there's a big Catholic youth gathering at Wembley Arena called Flame - http://cymfed.org/congress/flame/2012/ - at which around 8000 people are expected. Edwin was asked to write a theme song for this occasion, and he asked me to play guitar on it! So it's not my tune at all but I think you'll enjoy it... stream and download (if you want to!) here - http://edwinfawcett.bandc...album/the-flame-anthem this was recorded in PT9 on a Mac, i'm afraid...;-)

Hi Mark, Congrats on getting the call to play on such a high profile project! Great job on the guitar part. Not surprisingly, the instrumental version shows off your skills a little better but both versions sound great. Excellent!

Very good production. The chorus at the end sounds huge, as if it were recorded in a large hall. Nice guitar work and vocals. Hallelujah.

Agree with Lynn - that last chorus really kicks it up a notch and justifies the anthem description. It was interesting to hear you play out of your usual comfort zone - I always enjoy when people do that and I've often thought that it would be good to hear your work in another setting and you certainly pulled it off .

here - http://edwinfawcett.bandc...album/the-flame-anthem which one is it? The 1st? I listened to that one. Wow that chick has a great voice! And your vocals have never sounded better ;-) The acoustic guitar was down in the mix, but I could hear it, sounded good. Really a great piano player too. Looking forward to your electric. This is really a great production! A choir WOW! I got goose bumps! Well, I didn't hear the electric, but wow... What an awesome awesome production! Really top notch! I posted the link on my FB, thanks very much for posting this Mark.

Mark - That's some really pretty acoustic playing on this song! I had to listen to the instrumental version to appreciate it and good on you for keeping the electric chops in line/subdued with this as well. Beautifuk song!

What a great song, great performances by everyone and great production! Congrats on being asked to play on it too. He's an amazing composer and pianist. I listened to the instrumental version too and was able to hear your great guitar work there better (although the vocal version is just as fantastic.) I bought the instrumental so I can listen again and again.

Not my cup ... After a couple of duet verses I skipped to the choir section desperately hoping for better ... I also sought for your guitars! Worse, I couldn't hear your guitars everywhere I searched. IMHO, this is not an anthem: A lot of quaint scriptures, effeminate performances (of which I'm guilty of), political harmonies, vocs, vociferous praises ... etc. ... piled up quaint proverbs. Unfortunately, there really aren't any convincing hooks nor provoking gospel themes recurring ... just cute lukewarm rhymes and performances ... disguised as gospel. I did hear the proper words "Jesus Christ" once or twice ... fwiw. In sum: Emo advertisements and fx's to God(?) ... but no gospel embers to kindle and save my troubled soul. Mark, I prefer some or all of your invoking apocalyptic anthems ... which are hot and cold ... heaven and hell: if I may validate some of those as true anthems! I anxiously await your next offering, sir!

thanks Janet! ah Philip - the world needs conformity as well as absurdity/uniqueness! and c'mon, you gotta love the minor/major switch in the chorus! actually, listen to Edwin's first CD on Bandcamp - i bet you have never heard psalms done like that! http://edwinfawcett.bandcamp.com/track/god-is-king for example. thanks for listening as ever!

Thanks for introducing me to Edwin's music, Mark. I've been listening for the last 3 days. It's so rare to hear much of a piano in bands these days. I'm enjoying listening to and learning from him. He's got a fantastic style.

It is a great piece, but I personally think that the piano over powers your guitar in the full production and in the instrumental. I listened with good gear and great headphones and had to really pay attention to hear any guitar at all. What I did hear was great, but you were robbed of your preformance IMO. It was great playing but should the guitar should be brought up a bit in balance with the piano. I really couldn't hardly hear you in the full production song at all. This is just my honest view and opionion. I think yhe guitar should be brought up a bit or the piano set back a tad so you can clearly hear both the guitars clearly and distinctively. It is great however you were able to get chosen for such a beautiful piece of music, now you need to be brought up a bit is the mix so you shine as well as the rest. Blessings, John
