Classic View Please!

Okay, I've X1 PE installed. The view has that really ugly, really useless control bar docked at the top. I can make it go away, but I can't find the way to create custom icons like I had on 8.5. The "help" in this new Sonar just plain sucks. You can't use it at all. Does anybody know how to make X1 look like classic Sonar? I'm stuck and it's slowing me down. All help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. The videos show a classic view too. So, even Calkewalk doesn't like their new view options.

    Hello,

Thanks for upgrading and for sharing your opinions.

There is no 'classic view' and none of our videos show such a thing. Where are you seeing this? And what is wrong with the help? Is there something specific you cannot figure out how to do? Maybe I or someone else can be of assistance.

We actually like the new GUI but of course will continue to refine and improve it. Just take some time to learn where things are now. :)

In the Audio Snap 2.0 video, the Control Bar is not there and the guy in the video has custom icons. I know you like the new view... unfortunately I don't and guess what? I'm the customer (not really appreciating your glib tone there, buddy). I went with Sonar because it was so customizable to the way I want my work flow to go. Now, with X1, you're telling me how to work. If I wanted a DAW that tells me how to work, I would've gone with ProTools and gotten the name recognition that goes along with it. I search for Customize View in Help and it gives me nothing of any value. I search for Customize Icons and I get a ton of stuff that is of little to no use. Every time I've searched in Help, the menus and buttons that the help refers to are either in a completely different spot or called something completely different. Very counter-intuitive. Every module of the Control bar gives me one or two things I want and a whole bunch of stuff I don't. I want to customize my view for efficiency and to work with what I do. I don't work for Cakewalk so my workflow is definitely different from yours. I want to customize my workflow and I only need a few icons at the top to get me there. Now, can I customize my view or am I stuck with whatever you tell me to do?

    Hello,

I'm not trying to come across with any particular tone, just trying to be helpful to a distraught customer. As much as I am put off by your response accusing me as such, I'll still try my best to help.

The AudioSnap 2.0 video(s) was made using 8.5, well before X1 was released. That's why you see 8.5's toolbar.

In X1 the Control Bar has modules. Each module has fixed controls. However, modules can be shown/ hidden and moved around to taste.

    Hope that helps!

I'm in the public serving business... actually a resort.  If I said something like that to a customer... I'd be looking for a new job.  As much as you may be put off... you might keep your thoughts to yourself, and serve the public with your product.  If you don't want his business, then say what you want, but expect potential reprocussions.  Remember, without the customer, it doesn't matter if your product can bring world peace...  you won't be able to move your product without them.

btw, I like your product and tend to overlook these issues and figure they are just words.  To me, pretty much a non-issue.

I understand where you're coming from, but I responded to the OP with the intentions of helping, which I did, yet was met with a very rude response. I'm not a customer service agent and this isn't a complaint department or even a customer service center. A minimum level of civility is required to be here.

Not speaking for Seth (well maybe I am) but the OP did say (almost as a matter of factly) that even Cakewalk didn't like the new view.  I think Seth was saying, "Yes we do" in response.

there have been detailed X1 videos available for almost a year now, outlining the new look, control bar, dock etc. You have only got yourself to blame for not being diligent enough to check out the product you were buying beforehand, no point coming on here and yelling about how different it is...... that was the point of X1. To address your concern, learn the new shortcuts and keybindings (or make your own), or download the customizable toolbar from user Benstat.... http://www.sonarplus.co.uk/Pages/Toolbar.aspx

Exactly, my 'yes we do' was simply to point out that yes, we at Cakewalk actually do like X1 and Skylight and that there is no 'classic mode'. Now, would we like there to be more color customization options? Absolutely! My hope is that we can address this in the future, but for now it is what it is.

And no, there's no reason for this, or any thread, to get 'messy'.

this can get analyzed to death, keeping the musicians who should be making music with Cake's fine product, totally distracted from that.

I must say, it'd be pretty obvious Cakewalk would like the product they put out, or they'd refine it beforehand.  That comment was a given.

any wazz... nothing else to see here...  I DO totally agree, research what you are buying first.  If you don't like something and buy blindly, only the consumer is to blame.

@ Perfect Print - When I bought Sonar X1 was still a rumor. I got the first version. Now who's to blame? I'm only, just now, trying to resolve this. I am working with the product, but I'm less than excited with the development of "we'll tell you how to work" methodology. @ Seth. You were rude. I never responded rudely. Perhaps you're in the wrong part of this business. Customer service doesn't seem to be your strong suit. Thank you for telling me to get bent and deal with it.

I don't understand why you think I was rude. Was helping you understand the features and answering your questions rude? Seriously, I don't see how any of that was rude. And I certainly never told you to 'get bent and deal with it'.

Like I said, I'm not in customer service, and this isn't a CS forum. I'm in sales and marketing and this is a peer to peer help forum. I'm here on my own good will trying to help. Sorry you're not seeing it that way.

Have a wonderful day and best of luck to you!

I don't want this thread to spiral out of control and see us arguing about who is rude and who is not, so I'm going to lock this thread.

USWMAC08, you're more than welcome to start a new thread about issues you're having or things you'd like to see change in future versions of SONAR.

Let's just be sure to keep it on topic.
