Clean 8.5 Install or Upgrade?

I currently have Sonar Producer 7 and have purchased 8.5.
Should I upgrade or do a clean install?
If upgrade, what updates do I need to step through?
Once I get to 8.5, can I go straight to 8.5.3 or do I need to install 8.5.1 and 8.5.2? Cakewalk is not clear about which updates are cumulative and which are incremental.

Thanks!
Gary

Which 8.5 did you get? The download or the disc set? If you're coming from 7 and its upgrades. Either will do. I'm partial to having the discs and I always order the hard copy. There are different instructions for each version.

8.x is a separate install than 7.  You can keep both (I do).  However, 8.x will allow you to "migrate", which means it will use the "settings" from 7 so you don't have to start over tweaking all that.

They install into separate folders (unless you screw up and tell it to overwrite 7, which you shouldn't lol).  And since Sonar is not a big space hog, you should be able to keep both versions if you have a fairly good size set of drives.

FWIW, I always migrate.  Not everyone does.

Oh I forgot -- I think you have to install 8.5 then 8.5.2, then 8.5.3 but that SHOULD be mentioned in the download area if you're unsure.

8.5 is a full version that will install in a directory by itself, even if you keep SONAR 7 on your system. If you got 8.5. it must be the full version with the disks because you can only get the download version of 8.5 if you have 8.0-8.3.1 already installed. The download version requires the installation of 8.0-8.3.1 to be on your system.

An upgrade from 7 to 8.5 just means you get a discount since you already had a previous version of SONAR. You do not even need SONAR 7 on your system in order to upgrade to 8.5.

8.5 uses none of SONAR 7's files when you install 8.5.

You must first install 8.5, then 8.5.2, then 8.5.3.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help! I got Sonar 8.5 with patches updated and running with my firewire interface tonight. Haven't had a chance to check out new features, but look forward to my first 8.5 project.

    Thanks again!
