Cleaning tool freezing computer?

EVERY time I try to use the cleaning tool to remove files no longer used, the minute I click the "Find" button, X3 freezes up and even Task Manager can "end process" in the "Process" tab. This has been happening every time I have tried it for about 2 years now. Anyone have a solution or the same problem?
