Hi, Most of these are in Peter Cook and Dudley Moore's catalog and not playable for the average audience. The piece about the meanings in black music comes to mind, right away! Beyond that Amon Duul 2 has some doozies ... like "Mona Lisa has a bird brain ... " and some seriously fun stuff on the early albums up to "Vive la Trance" "(clap your hands, because you gonna die ... every victim is searching for his hangman) ... the wild beast is in the villages, dealing only in death, with his soul left behind him, yes, the raper of women, mutilator of children, the murderer of men ... better to die as a free man than to live as a slave! Unite! And fight! From "Mozambique". It is a brutal set of lyrics, but sometimes, how else can you say what needs to be said?

Pop country writers (whether you go for the genre or not) write the most head slapping obvious clever "rings everybody's number" lyrics I've ever been mad I can't get close to, but I keep tryin cause it's a challenge to keep the listener's attention with the vocalist sitting in your lap for 3:30.

... I don't know if you'd say this was "clever" as such, but it passes the time. We Brits often gaze in awe at the philosophies proffered in Country and Western music.
If you really want clever lyrics, then just about anything from John Sebastian or Ray Davies.

I've always liked the first two lines of the chorus in this Randy Travis song.... "Is it sill over, are we still through Since my phone still ain't ringing, I assume It still ain't you" Then there is this creative tie of words (avenue - you) from an Ian Thomas song made popular around the world by America. "Every day I sit beside you... on the bus to madison aven-you work in the big gray store, with the revolving doors" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXuv-_SUVfY (it's the first line to put it in context)
Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

Hi,
I find more cleverness in comedy than I do anywhere else ... I still think things like "The Goons", "Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band", "Grimms", "Mike McGear", "Neil Innes", and that whole family of folks had some exceptional music with amazing lyrics ... goodness, even Randy Racquel ... is .... (wind sound from your mouth!) ... better than many "words" that people say or sing, specially when they do not have the humor to act it out correctly. We can also do "The Intro and the Outro" and crack up, but the best still is the Pinball Wizard send up, and my favorite album ... Roger Ruskin Spear's solo album "Unusual".
