Hi Jim
Sorry not to have replied sooner. I spent yesterday investigating what you suggested. Many years ago I came across DMA so was aware of it. My system has is using a raid controller for two striped SATA RAID disks. Even after a hour long support call to Dell who knew almost nothing about DMA (Wasn't on their help desk script!) I think I've confirmed that SATA doesn't use DMA because the transfer rate is faster than DMA allows anyway. (In danger of sounding like I know more than I do at this point). I'm using USB2, not 3.
If I use Cubase, which I have but haven't learn't and don't want to use because I love Sonar X1, have invested in it both time and money and everything takes me 4 times longer when I use Cubase, I don't know keyboard shortcuts etc, However, no p ops and no clicks. I learn't yeterday I can drag and drop tracks from Sonar into cubase, but not the other way round. Anyway clicks still occur in Cubase when the file is copied. But I get no clicks if I record in Cubase.
So it does seem like it's an issue with Sonar.
