Clicks and Crashes......Help
I hope one of you wizards can help me? I have a new computer & just got X-2 last week!! I have done all the tweaks that I could except the BIOS which I don't know how to do. Used the Sweetwater guide. I have the audio files set for my external 2TB hard drive. I've changed the ASIO setting thru the quadcapture back and forth. I haven't recorded anything of consequence yet so I'm in set-up phase! I have two problems I can't figure out? I have no pan control from my consol & when I use Ctrl-S to save i hear a loud scrathy noise that is driving me nutz!!! Then of course it crashes. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Do you have the latest 64bit drivers for your Quadcapture installed in your PC. Then i would try WDM and ASIO driver modes and see what works best for you. I have no pan control from my consol & when I use Ctrl-S to save i hear a loud scrathy noise that is driving me nutz!!! What console are you using? I would assume that the console is at fault, if you cant pan your audio signal going form your console to your audio interface. You probably dont even need a separate console if you have an audio interface. I would do away with it. As far as your noise when you "save as". I bet its an IRQ conflict. So iu would look into that Cj

You are correct CJ....I use an interface. I was reffering to the console view in X-2... I will look into the quadcapture driver and as for the IRQ conflict? I have no idea how to deal with that? Thanks for the response!

Take a look in your preferences goto sync & caching If the two boxes in "file system" are checked, uncheck them and see if the pops and clicks are gone.

Firstly, go to the settings of your interface Try making the sample rate 44.1 - this will have to match what Sonar is set to but you have to start somewhere so do that here Try setting the number of samples parameter to 256 - it's a reasonable starting point Now BEFORE going into Sonar, test out the sound of playing a song through Windows Media Player. Sound OK? Now go into Sonar - don't bother getting into a project yet - go to Edit>Preferences>Audio>Playback and Recording What driver mode are you running in? Set it to ASIO then click Apply Now click on Driver Settings on the left Set the Sample Rate to 44.1 to match the interface settings Click Apply Close out of this Open a new project with Normal template Insert an audio track Click on the number 1 on the left side of the track to select it Click File>Edit>Import Audio and import some MP3 or WMA file, this will load it to track 1 Now click Play or hit the space bar How does it sound? Does it sound? The above just checks a simple audio file for playback outside of Sonar and also within Sonar Please post results Bob Bone

Update all your drivers (inc graphics card, sound card, chipset). Do not rely on HP's site for update drivers, instead go to each manufacturers website to make sure you have the latest version. Run windows update. Update all your firmware and BIOSs for all your hardware. Run scandisk and defrag your hard drive. Turn off AMD PowerNow in the BIOS.

For the pan issue, make sure you are working with something that can be panned. For example, a mono track routed to a mono bus won't pan, nor will mono clips on a mono track (even if the bus is stereo). For the other stuff... in addition to everything already suggested, you may want to disable the on-board sound card.

Check your PC BIOS settings for AMD power now (consult your PC manual for instructions to get into the BIOS). If that doesn't work you may want to switch it back on. StarTekh's suggestion is a good one above (maybe do that first), but don't rely 100% as often they will NOT supply the latest drivers (apart from HP hardware). Often you need to go direct to the manufacturers sites. So if your graphics card is nVidia , you generally go to nVidia's site. To find about about your hardware go to device manager (google it if you can't find it).

Here's This mornings report....All updated done & backed up.. I ran an MP3 and it sounded fine i media player and X-2!! Checked all my settings and loaded an audio track. Recorded a guitar track- sounded good! Erased then added supperior drum track 12 bars then a guitar then a second as a lead guitar - sounded fine no sratches when saving. Then i added busses for the drums and one for each guitar- still A OK...sounded great!! I then began to add FX in pro channels and console emulators and then the same scratch's when saving showed back up. GRRRR I thought we were fixed? I know it's just one more tweak to get this machine working perfect. But what tweak will do the trick? I'm not starting my new project till I get this last imperfection fixxed. Thanks for all the help guys. You Rock!!!

I don't think this has been mentioned yet, or maybe I'm simply missing it, but you should certainly try increasing your latency to see if that helps with the screeching sound - your CPU should be hitting pretty hard if that's the case.

StarTekh...I used every tweak you showed me except messing with the bios! I got the interface and X2 matched up in the settings menus. That did the trick. I still had one crash today but was my fault for not waiting on the program to stop. Other than that she did everything I asked of her today. I will start tracking for real this weekend. And, I started a soundclick profile for you guys to comment on my progress which I would appreciate if it's constructive of course...lol I expect a crack now and then but I'm all about my own stuff & don't care about making money just music for my own pleasure....ROCK ON
