Clip Gain Automation Envelopes - A Workflow Question

Good morning everyone!

Just a quick question concerning the clip gain automation envelopes: is there a way to select only a portion of a clip and have nodes automatically created and only the selected section be brought up or down? Or do I have to either create them myself or create sub-clips of a clip?

Thanks!

Yes, there's the quick way...

In the lower portion of the clip, drag-select the area you wish to be affected, then move your mouse to the upper portion and the mouse image changes to up/down arrows... Simply click-drag there and it will auto create two sets of nodes. One at each end of your selected area and raise/lower the envelope within...

Very quick and helpful...

Here's hoping soon they will allow us to define the fade type of the node pairs... Currently it will only use the jump style though you can edit to your heart's delight after creating...

Thanks for your reply, Keni!

Ah, that's brilliant, so glad that exists! I'm not sure what you mean by not allowing the defining of node pairs. When I move the nodes away from being on top of the other, I can define the fade as usual on envelopes.

Thanks again!

I'm glad it is helping you...

Yes, it's a wonderful time saver and I use it all the time.

I mentioned that you can edit it and adjust the fade type etc....

What I was referring to is that the nodes are always jump and must be edited afterwards if different is desired.

I typically prefer a slow fade in and fast fade out... I would love to be able to pre-define the fade types as we can set such preferences in advance and save the extra editing...

Some day?

Yes, clip envelopes adopt exactly the same behaviour/characteristics as track envelopes. I don't think this has always been the case.

Hi Jonesey...

I'm not sure I understand what you mean...?

Other than accessing them, all envelopes have always been treated the same?

My "issue" with them is that unlike our default fade in/out parameters, we can't set such for the behavior of this handy auto-section creation tool...

Not complaining, just feature requesting...

Which reminds me... Though I've thought about this and mentioned it often, I don't remember if I've ever filed a feature request for it so I think I will do that now! ;-)

Good morning!

Ah, I see what you mean now. That does sound like it could be highly useful!
I'll be honest, I'm relatively new to the world of envelopes, and as such don't have much of a workflow for them.

Thanks for your time!

I'm glad I could help...

Envelopes are a very powerful tool that can be used and applied in many ways... I'm sure the more you use them, the more you'll find uses for them! ;-)
