Clip editing in X1

Hi, when dragging and copying clips in X1, all of the automation data is copied too.  Similarly, when I delete a clip, the automation data is deleted for the portion of the track where the clip once was.  Is there a way I can do these things without affecting the automation?

    Hi,

I've just had a go at this.

I've got an Instrument track which contains MIDI. Associated with that track are three Automation Lanes, one for Pan, one for Volume and one for a parameter withing the soft synth.

If I simply grab the clip to move it, the automation moves with it, all three take lanes.

You will notice, in track view, that when you select a track, the track number background turns blue, and so do the take lane selection indicators.

What I tried next was deselecting the take lanes by Ctrl clicking the take lane selection gizmo. I can either deselect all three tracks or just one or two. Which ever tracks are deselected, the automation stays where it is, whereas the take lane that is still selected will have its automation moved along with the clip.

I hope that helps. I will see if I can find the relevant pages in the X2 Reference Guide which confirms the above.

Thanks for that - the lanes in X2 do look good.  Unfortunately though, I'm still on X1 so can't use that method.  Does anyone know how to do the same thing in X1?

Oops... sorry, I totally missed that in the title of the post. My bad...

    Do you not fancy upgrading?

In the Track View menu. Deselect "Options-->Select track envelopes with clips" that should sort it out for you.

    Thanks FastBikerBoy

It always ends up being a check box or option hidden somewhere - finding it is the mission.

To Synkotron, I probably will upgrade soon - although the take lanes and automation lanes are probably the only things I really desire in the upgrade.  Like many people, the thing I want most - more advanced functionality when working to picture - isn't covered in any of the what's new articles.
