Clone hd with X2 to new SSD?

After I install X2, I was planning on cloning the HD with the OS and programs to a new SSD next week.I would like to avoid reinstalling the OS and programs unless there is a reason I should not. Does anyone have advice or potential problems I may have doing this? Thanks.

    so you're 100% sure that you'll get X2 before next week?! =)
are you sitting on information no one else's got or is your post based on the rumor-post? ;)

I assume you will replace the current C: drive with the SSD?.. if so you should be fine..Also, do regular backups..SSD do not have the longevity of regular HDD

I've read that cloning is not the best way to start with an SSD, that fresh installs work better. This was mainly on the newegg.com forums from people who were having issues with new SSDs. I have an Intel SSD and did a clean install.

I'd simply wait for X2 AND your new SSD and do it once, and once only, without any heartache or potential for Murphy's law to kick in.

Thanks, Yeah, I should not assume X2 will be available before I get the SSd and I will do the backups. Should I use a cloning program?

I am only thinking about it, but I could be talked out of it quite easy. It is just drag reinstalling Omnisphere, Trillian and Kontakt.

In my opinion, you should either get your new SSD working 100% reliably - OR get X2 installed & working  100% reliably.

Attempting to do both simultaneously will end in grief. It's bound to happen.

And I agree with not cloning your existing C: drive - nothing beats a fresh install.

Yes I know the clean install is the best way.

Wise advice. My OS and audio apps. have been installed only once, about 14 months ago. There is no degradation of performance and my audio-only system is basically locked down now. Meaning, aside the installation of a new plugin once in a while, no changes are being made.

Just make sure to install the latest firmware for your SSD (if need be) and follow the installation instructions especially if it's an OS drive. For example, use "quick format" only (4k cluster size - default) etc. As you wait for your SSD to be delivered, you have an opportunity to take the time to find out how to do it right the first time around. Good luck!

Thanks Alegria. I can always use advice on how others would set the SSD up. I currently have samples on a second drive and will make my current C drive for backup. The SSD will be 240gigs.

I just went to SSDs (Thanks to some great prices and rebates).
I was able to get a couple of 128gb SSDs for around 60.00 each.
I used a program called Macrium Reflect to create images of my C drive and my Project drive.

I have not had any issues restoring these and the performance boost is really nice.   The reduced noise is also a plus.  I look forward to going completely SSD.  The only drive I have left is my main Data drive where all of my sample and VSTs live.

I am going to make a more dedicated effort to back up images more regularly ;^)
Also looking forward to X2 and down the road Windows 8 where I probably will take the plunge and clean install everything.

Yeah,we are starting to see some good prices for the SSD`s now.I usually wait as long as possible to make system upgrades.
