Close to giving up on Cakewalk..... HELP!!!

I started as many of us years ago with every bootleg program you could imagine.  Cakewalk back then stood out as the most user friendly, so it's what I stuck with.  A couple years back I bought Sonar 8.5, then upgraded to X1.  My last proffesionally built studio computer was good for a while, but I would always have random problems with Cakewalk.  I attributed it to the computer, because I couldn't believe my store bought copy of Cakewalk could be the issue.  I recently upgraded to a much nicer custom built computer (PC) and just want to make some music.  It's been 3 months of not making music.  Part of that was simple computer stuff that just took a while for me to figure out.  Now with all the bugs worked out, I install Sonar.  First Install, I realize Roland Groove Synth does not work, and freezes my audio engine.  I reinstall at 32 bit, same problem, and now I realize Dimension Pro also has issues finding Multisamples.  Not all multisamples, just certain ones.  I look through the computer and see the Multisamples there, in the same folder as the multisamples Dimension Pro CAN find.  I google search, I try things I find, they don't work, I delete and reinstall, that doesn't work.  I have multiple friends who have sworn by Cubase for years.  None of them over the past 5 years or so have had the problems I've had with my program of choice.  Multiple friends who use ProTools..... Not having these  issues.  I am not a computer wiz, but neither are they.  I'm just a frustrated guy who wants to create music without having to be a computer programmer 75% of the time.  If anybody thinks they can help, ask any questions you need.  Also, Roland Groove Synth would sometimes cause malfunctions on Sonar 8.5 when I  was using it, but not the freeze it does now.  Just added info.

    1. Welcome to the forum

    2. If you want technical help you will need to post you entire system specifications (i.e. OS, PC specs, soundcard (audio I/O device) etc. and so and so forth.

    3. Remember that this is a peer supported forum. Almost everyone (including me) are just users like yourself.

    Regards,

Nice day to go fishing. Might I suggest you take up fly fishing, it's more fun than trolling.

You nicely summarized every **** made over the last couple years. Well done.

I'm sure that if you're getting problems with some Dim Pro multisamples and not others the issue will be with the prog files which I believe are sfz based.

They probably have a non-existant or now changed path to the sample in them somewhere. Have a look at those.

Some people are so keen to be some sort of moral conciousness of every community they are involved with and get on their high horse is a heart beat.

The guy's got something on his mind, he says it. end of story.

He is not abusive, inflamatory, he points at specific problems he is having, where he looked for solutions and course of action he has taken.

It is his first post, he is not supposed to have read every single messages of the last couple of years either.

What is it to you John to "send him fishing"? Who are you exactly? Are you an official moderator of this forum? What gives you the privilege to send people on their bike this way?

Don't kid yourself, your post shows clearly you are no better than any troller there's ever been, and the only inflamatory post in this thread is yours.

Now, that's me getting something off my chest too!

    Cheers,

knowing the system specs is essential to being able to offer any advice.

    Computer, OS, soundcard ...............especially.

EDIT:  I think you are very likely wrong in assuming we stated with bootlegged DAW software...... I do believe most of us started with the legal versions, not bootlegged.  I for one, do not have any programs on my computers that are illegal, bootlegged, or cracked.  I do not believe very many folks here do. It's good to see you finally joined the land of the legal by buying and supporting the company that makes some excellent music software. No company can survive if everyone steals from it.

I don't think many of us started with Bootleg versions-I never have-your assuming most here are theives then? You also obviously had the bootleg Sonar also. Nice

    B. Dangerous,

Your question is just too open-ended for anyone to offer any specific advice.  You might start by listing your system specs (along with audio interface)...

Also, I'm curious why your "multiple friends" who use Cubase and Pro Tools haven't helped you.  Anyone well-versed in one DAW should be able to pick up the basics in another DAW fairly easily.  You seem completely frustrated, while surrounded by knowledgeable friends who apparently have no advice to offer you...?

Also, regarding your "custom built" computer... Unless it was custom built by a DAW builder, you don't have anything special as it relates to computer recording.  You might as well have picked up whatever was on sale at Wal-Mart.  Again, your audio-savvy friends should have advised you here...

So, there you are.  Assuming you really want help -- then list your system specs and the specific problem you are having.   As someone else has pointed out, this is a peer supported forum.  Ask nicely, and most folks here will be glad to try and assist you.
