Color Issues
I selected "Default" as a color choice from the drop down list and cannot read any of the names on the tracks. Futhermore many colors that I choose do not work! Can some one tell me when when & if this will be corrected? How can something like this be overlooked! I'm beyond pissed off with Cakewalk for selling me something so in-complete. My vision is extremely poor and I need all the help I can get to make this work. Considering there is absolutely no way of reading the track name is beyond me. I figured that they simply overlooked this but after installing the latest update "c" I assumed this would have been fixed. I am still using 8.53 since I cannot use X1. I'm at the point of reporting Cakewalk to the BBB and let them know how Cakewalk is treating the customers who have purchased X1. Cakewalk's arrogance is beyond my scope of reasoning. Where is Gregg?

CBJ, I'm sorry to hear of your frustrations. We removed most of the color customization in X1 to go for a more unified look of the app. Some of the color options still work, but most do not as the color of the app itself is fixed. I've never seen track names not being visible. What color are they set to? SP

Sorry to hear about that. I second trying one of panup's mods, or maybe he can even make one with high contrast for folks who have trouble seeing. I've seen quite a few comments that the default colors are not ideal for many. I have to add that I too am disappointed and confused by the removal of customizations across the program. Still happily on 8.5.3 myself, uninstalled X1 months back. I'll stay on 8.5.3 indefinitely unless some of this is brought back, along with learning brand X, Y etc on the side. Too much was defined for us in this release in my opinion. Step backwards for me personally, though I know that many like the changes. If they had kept customizations and left well enough alone on a couple things, I think that possibly more people would be in the happy camp instead of fed up right now. Oh, if anyone at Cakewalk reads this, do you guys put out customer surveys before these kinds of decisions? NI has been doing that lately, and except for the Kore 2 fiasco, it seems to lead to really solid products that almost everyone is happy with. No surprises = happy customers! Just an idea. D

Cornieleous, We do indeed send out surveys from time to time. It is my hope that in the future we can reintroduce the kind of color and Control bar customization that we had in previous versions of SONAR. For now, it is what it is, but we are listening to what you guys are saying here on the forums, in person when we do events, and through our feature request page. I can't promise if/ when this will happen, but there are a number of us who think this should be brought back and we're trying to see that it gets done. I know that doesn't solve your problems right now, but hopefully it gives you at least a glimmer of hope for the future. SP

I know you guys are listening, and I am trying hard not to sound like a broken record or too much of a grouch when I stop by the forums these days. I have upgraded every year since Pro Audio 9, and so you can imagine that I want to stay with Cakewalk any way that I can. Of course if the tool is not working for me personally, I have to adjust. None of my complaints are personal by the way, its just about the tool (Sonar) and finding out if we are still a match down the road. So, I look forward to future releases to see what shakes down. Is there any way to sign up to get the surveys? Best, D

So funky that the program makes it look like the color options are still available, since they're there in the menu--they just don't Do anything when you try to make changes. But of course worse was the totally bizarre decision to hardwire the colors into the program so they literally can't be changed--they're "fixed." We're looking at a bunch of gray, blocky bitmaps that would have gotten an "F" in a software design class.--- All I can say is the day that's Unfixed can't come too soon for me. Big call Randy. I disagree with pretty much everything you've ever written about X1 (I think you're way off the mark) but I defend your right to say it. I just find myself asking- why?

I disagree with pretty much everything you've ever written about X1 (I think you're way off the mark) but I defend your right to say it. I just find myself asking- why? Hi, Backwoods - Ah, don't mind me. I try to be positive, I do what I can to be helpful, but there's a pattern with me that I try to keep in check, and sometimes I just can't. The pattern is that after I've worked with X1 again, I always end up so unhappy with it, that I get PO'd and I vent a bit when it would probably be more helpful if I didn't. But my post you're quoting isn't a "big call"--It's "just" my call. Nobody needs to agree with me, and as always I'm not saying what I think anyone else should think - I'm just passing on my personal reaction to the program. So the answer to "why," is that I don't like X1, and still consider it one of the worst pieces of software I've ever owned, and being a member of the forum, I let myself get carried once and awhile, expressing my frustration. An irony with X1, to me, is that in its effort to look supposedly modern and sleek, it's actually retro, in that it makes users dive for menu after menu, since all that "clutter" was taken away--the "clutter" being all those handy, readily available tools. That's way old school programming - or I thought it was until I beheld This piece of work. And so on. - Carry on. Randy B.

Hey CBJ, Track View & Console View Audio/Midi/Synth Track Name Text colors WAS one of the FEW colors I was able to change to suit in the preferences menu (see screenshot link). I was able to do this before applyin g Panu's mod. Does this help? [ http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc417/HeyDan/X1screenshot.jpg]

Seth Perlstein [Cakewalk ] We removed most of the color customization in X1 to go for a more unified look of the app. SP Ouch. Seth, being forced to look at gray all day is actually a deal-breaker, for me! There's a reason God didn't make gray flowers. (He made little green apples!) Just FYI, the removal of color choice is one of the reasons I'm sticking with 8.5. Sorry. I can't see how that was in any way a good business decision. I'm really a BIG fan of Cakewalk- but decisions like that aren't very customer-friendly!

I would have actually liked X1 a lot better if there was a colour choice involved...as it stands right now it is not the easiest thing to look at with my eyesight the way it is....

I will forward a screenshot of my 8.53 color selection of the same area to provide a comparison. The workaround is to export/import your colors from 8.5. Some will have no effect, but IIRC, track name text and backgrounds do import. My biggest disappointment was not being able to brighten the background color of the active track, which I have have done in all previous versions to make it a little more obvious. I think I also failed to get more contrast between the track numbers and their backgrounds, although I was able to change the number background for sticky-selected tracks back to the neon green it used to be, which helped some.

We removed most of the color customization in X1 to go for a more unified look of the app. Its getting deep in here now. How come someone else figured out how to give us better colors (talking about the Sonar Plus guys). I agree the amount of color controls in Sonar pre-X1 were ludicrous, but we should be able to make some changes to all the black and gray.

Yep, here's hoping they put back the all the customization which was removed. Another major color issue since Sonar 7 is in the PRV Track Pane. When a track is selected, the color change is so slight that it's tres difficult to see which track is actually selected. If you feel this is true, please put in a feature request to have that color modifiable as well: http://www.cakewalk.com/support/contact/featurerequest.aspx Mahlon

Or reading the forums? I doubt, 'cos I do not remember any Sonar user asking for removing color or any other type of customization. Some of CW's ads say that Sonar is made by musicians for musicians... well, I doubt there are much musicians who do not like customization.
