Awesome! Nice to see Rog's vitriol finally dissolved and exorcised from his consciousness. And truly great to see the love and the embrace between he and David. Still, I agree that it is a shame Rick passed on before the wounds finally healed. I got ot see him on Gilmour's tour in '06. Both nights at RCMH in NYC were fantastic. Anyway, thanks for that.

I think a lot of Roger's vitriol died down quite a while ago, and he would be happy to work with Dave and Nick again (and wanted to tour with them). But I think Dave feels he could do just fine without working with Roger anymore, so you will only see them together on rare occasions. Sad, because Pink Floyd was a magical combination of creative musicians. Sadder is that Rick's passing makes any attempt to fully recreate that magic truly impossible.

Thanks Strummy just had a chance to watch them. I wonder if the DVD will feature any of this gig.

Sad, because Pink Floyd was a magical combination of creative musicians. Sadder is that Rick's passing makes any attempt to fully recreate that magic truly impossible. You should've heard the crowd erupt at RCMH when the first notes of "Echoes" hit everybody's ears. Took me completely by surprise... never expected to hear that pulled out. It was the first two nights of the tour as well and everybody was just looking around at each other grinning and nodding. I recorded both nights with an MAudio Microtrack but sadly didn't have the available pad and even with the volume way down it still overloaded the mics when things got loud. Rick was a beautiful, kind soul. Rog said some pretty cruel things about both Rick and David as musicians and people... that's the main reason Rick and David resisted a reunion. I do though remember reading an interview back when they re-formed in the mid eighties where David stated they wanted Rog to get on board, but he told them to feck off and things just got real ugly from there. Really became a sad and pointless ego fest but it's nice to see how old age, reflection and the beauty of that music brought them back together... albeit a bit too late to include Richard. Edit: did anybody catch Roger feigning the infamous spitting incident in the second clip?

Really became a sad and pointless ego fest but it's nice to see how old age, reflection and the beauty of that music brought them back together... albeit a bit too late to include Richard. Yeah, my impression was Roger, aside from ego, didn't have a lot of respect for musicians in general and thought of them as "replaceable". I seem to recall an interview from way back (mid 70's?) where he divided the band into "the musicians" (Dave and Rick) and "the artists" (or something like that, but it was himself and Nick). And when he did the Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking tour with EC, he said something like, "It's just like Pink Floyd, except Eric Clapton is playing guitar and..." OK it was Eric Clapton, but it still came across as quite disrespectful to Dave. And FWIW, Dave didn't help things either, saying something like "most of the fans are still more upset about Syd leaving than Roger". And Roger took it as a great insult that they would continue Pink Floyd without him, even if he didn't want to continue it. I think once he got over that, he chilled out and forgot about all of the "he's singing my personal songs like they don't mean anything, and I'll never forgive him for that" stuff.

I watched the Bio documentary about Pink Floyd a few weeks ago. Learned some stuff I didn't know about them, like how they always made sure Syd got royalties for everything they released.

Yeah there's a lot of crap floating around through the years about how they all just cold heartedly ditched Syd, but there's a whole other side to it that Syd fans and the media in general conveniently leave out. They loved Syd. But he became unstable and either couldn't or wouldn't perform anymore. Whether his erratic behavior was intentional or he truly did slip over the edge from psyhcedelics or mental illness is still up for debate... but regardless Syd was not the founding member and the other three were basically held hostage through the ordeal... they were in a tough spot no matter what Syd fans say or think. Was that fair to the other three to suffer through Syd's madness, real or not, while they were trying to make a name for themselves? I don't know, it just always bugged me there existed this self righteous perception that they just up and ditched him. There's alot more to it than that.

Without a doubt, my favourite band of all time. Thanks for the link Steve. What makes this even sweeter is that we're going to see Rog performing The Wall at Birmingham's NIA in June. Can't wait.

I'm currently reading Nick Mason's memoir, Inside Out. Great book. It's really sort of a coffee-table book with loads of pictures, but it's the surprisingly well-written text that makes it fascinating. An interesting mix of minutia such as how much they paid to rent a truck, followed by broad, vague statements such as "and then we toured America". Recommended reading for all Floydistas.
