Comperable to Mackie onyx 1640?

I want the Mackie, but am looking to see what else compares...I'm all ears!

I'm stuck in the past, but my foot's tapping forward

What do you want it for? If an interface, then I'd say not much in it's class. If your just looking at it for a mixing board, then if it was me, I'd check out the Soundcraft stuff. I like their M-series line.

I've got one--it's fantastic! I run 13 channels of drums into SONAR, and monitor the audio *with* a scratch track, with very little latency. And this was with my older P4 machine and SONAR 4PE. I can't recommend it highly enough. I bought it mainly for the pre-amps, truth be told, as several friends told me that they were very transparent. I figured that if I couldn't afford $10K for some nice sweet pre's then the next best thing might be to use something that didn't color the sound; I could always sweeten the sound later in the process. But then I swallowed the $400 bitter pill and bought the FW card. Great stuff! BTW, I think the price of that card has come down some now, if you keep your eyes open.

I looked at a couple other choices, but none of them even came close to the Mackie IMO...
