Comping: Take Lanes overlap

I've got vocal tracks in which I recorded multiple takes by a vocalist.  One of the layers is superimposed on the other one visually in the same lane, and they both play at the same time when comping.  (Record 2 and Record 3).  Interestingly, I didn't realize this when splitting the tracks into clips for comping, and they alternate visually as to what shows (Record 2 and Record 3) even though they are both present.  I can manually move one clip into an empty take lane, but it takes some effort (doesn't always work, sometimes both clips move together, other times one disappears and one moves.)

Any idea what I might have done to cause this, and also any way to easily move all the clips without going through the whole number and moving each segment manually?

The same thing (clip overlap in the same lane) happened to me just now. How about clicking one of the overlapping clips and hitting Num2 to nudge it to (create) a new lane?

Oh, I just realized nudge doesn't work between lanes. How inconvenient...

I don't know what caused it. Are you in x3? I recall seeing this kind of thing happen sometimes in x2 but not in x3. Never was able to figure out why. I think it was just a bug and not any workflow issue.

If you can't come up with another method you can identity the audio file(s) for each part you want to move (right click each clip), then find the files in windows explorer and drag them into a new track. I had to do this once. You will then have to manually recreate the takes by cutting the clip into parts and moving them into different take lanes, so it is not the easiest solution. But it does work if all else fails.
