Comping mutes preivous takes
I must be doing something dopey - I've used takes lanes / comping, etc. many times and haven't had this issue. I'm recording a section of music in a loop in comp mode. Once I'm dong recording the multiple takes - only the last take lane is not muted - all previous take lanes have the waveform greyed out. I have to right click and unmute each of them individually, then can proceed with the speed comping process of splitting it into sections, auditioning and selecting which portions of each take I want to keep and flattening the comp. This occurs when I have the record option enabled or disabled for 'mute previous take'. Any ideas on why all the previous take lane waveforms are muted? Thanks Russ

You have "mute previous takes" checked in Record Preferences? T

It still does it even when that option is not selected.

I see now you stated that. Unfortunately I'm on the road and cannot take a quick look at how I set up all the variables. Sorry, T

'Mute Previous Takes' is a Punch Recording option. Punch settings override the automatic muting of Comp Record mode.

When right clicking on the record button to view recording options, the 'mute previous takes' under punch recording is not enabled. Is that what you're referring to, or are there punch recording settings elsewhere?

On re-reading your original post, this sounds like normal behavior for Comp Recording mode. You can just swipe through the lower half parts of other takes you'd like to promote. Or split out sections of the unmuted last take, and then go looking for better takes of each section in other take lanes by clicking in the lower half or using Speed-Comping by hitting Shift+Spacebar to start playback, navigating clips with the cursor keys, and hitting enter to promote clips.

Many times when I go to speed comp tracks, I have to go back and watch a video on it to remind myself of some step or other that I have forgotten. I think I have a groove3 one, but seem to remember Cake having done one on their website.
I guess it is age. I only seem to be able to retain so much information before something else is pushed out and forgotten. 😊
Hmmmm..

Thanks for the responses. Interesting that this is normal behavior, I don't remember it occurring this way the last few times I did comping, so I must be doing something differently. I agree watching the videos helps - maybe it's time I do a refresher video course. :)
