Comping workflow/multiple comps

I really enjoy the current workflow for comping with drag selecting and speed comping and all that, but I was wondering what you guys do when for some reason you need multiple versions of a verse/chorus/whatever. The solutions I can think of all have drawbacks -

- bounce the various comps down, but then you still lose the actual selections you made, making it tricky to go back
- clone the track, but then you end up with duplicate tracks and duplicate fx etc.
- save various project versions, but then it's tricky to A/B easily

It would be great if we could somehow "unflatten" a comp. Or maybe someone has a better suggestion?

The way I do it is a bit complicated but when I know im going to have different alt versions, I will copy/paste the bones that are the same, repeating parts at the end of the song. Then I will add the parts, overdub the ALT version tracks.

So once im am done im left with a few chunks (a different bridge, verse or chorus for example) at the end of the song with approx. 8 bats between sections. than I will copy/save the project and make another project copy for ALT version editing.

In the new project copy I will edit those parts in.

When I am done comping but want to use different takes in a different track I usually don't bounce but commit the takes. I don't remember the exact wording but when it is done it creates a take lane and solo's it but does not delete the other takes. I then move that take to a new track, un-solo it and proceed to pick new takes.

You can also clone it to a new track and then have both tracks go to an aux track or bus and then add efx to that channel.
