One of the cool things about vst compression is that you can automate the threshold, which can add a lot of weirdness to reversed tracks. Try combining this with the transient shaper plugin, and you might be able to get some nice secondary rythmic effects going on too. Then, maybe, bounce the track and use audio snap to line up the new transients to the track and see what you get...
