Concept Ideas For Sonar by Users

I have always been a fan of Cakewalk's pro audio software. I went over the forum and did not find something like what i'm about to propose. If it has been done already, just let me know (just in case i missed it).

What i'm proposing is a topic about new implementations that can be done for Sonar throwed in by users, so the people at Sonar can select whether to do it or not and can make the software even more user friendly and .

A couple of things i can think of are:

*Have the ability to make a radio edit version of the project without destructively doing so and being able to do it from inside the project. Meaning, no new file will be created. It could be some sort of a view but the program has to read only the information visible to the radio edit, leaving out (hiding) regions and sections but not deleting them. For example, you have a song that has the following structure:

Intro verse chorus bridge chorus (just as an example)

For the radio edit you want to leave out the bridge, so you can "hide it" from the reading path of the project and leave it out. But it can be recovered and worked with by choosing the original version from let's say, the tools menu or view menu.

* Being able to add envelopes to multiple clips at the same time
Selecting multiple audio clips and right clicking so the popup menu appears and choosing the desired envelope.

* Being able to edit midi with a view of audio clips at the same time.

* Being able to insert a measure or change a measure in the meter/key and make sonar roll over all data to the right of the insertion to keep it synced.

Note: I've version 8.5 of Sonar, so i don't know if any of these have been implemented in latter versions.

ALL of this could/can be done in X1 and it's even easier in X2

Inline PRV.   And as Bristol said, there in X1 and even better in X2.

I like the "jump" idea, even better if there were multi-jump regions, although that's probably what you meant anyway.

On a similar thread I'd also like to see user configurable coloured regions between markers in the timeline, so visual indication of exactly what part of a project the now time is presently in would be quicker.

As Colin has pointed out the rest already exists.

Currently screens are bigger than they used to be. A 17" laptop can have a FULL HD resolution. If you have such a laptop or a desktop computer Cakewalk Sonar X2 is for you. In one screen you will have all functions you need at the task at hand. Want to go deep into midi after your audio part is done? Press 2 on the Keyboard and use a screenset for your midi editing. Quickly want to go from tracking to mixing, press a third screenset.

When you have a friend over you agreed to track you quickly can be confronted with artistic choices. Now you have track lanes. Open the channel you are recording to. Press the little button and see the track lanes appear. I usually setup a loopregion so the solo can be played over and over untill it's right. So now you have 7 takes of the same solo. Wich one is the best? First you delete the takes wich do not qualify. Then you choose the correct take. Or you simply edit the two best takes and create one..

There are more things wich make Sonar X2 a great release. But these things simply stick out. And I haven't even talked about chopping up your mix and deviding it in the matrix you can create that funny, exiting or very different 'radio edit' mix.

Now you can allso quickly upload your mix to soundcloud so it can be easily reviewed by your friends online.

    That's why I like Sonar X2.

May as well add in a marker track where the colored blocks are arranged as desired for playback.

Another concept or idea that came to mind today was to add some sort of control in the "AudioSnap Options" specifically in the Midi Extraction Section to be able to control the range of pulse levels whenever choosing the "Vary With Pulse Level" option.

What i mean by this is that if AudioSnap finds a pulse level from lets say a kick drum that is below a selected-by-user threshold, it automatically sets it inside the range specified.

For example, let's say we have 5 kick hits from a musical part and we extract Midi notes from those hits having selected the "Vary With Pulse Level" option, so we come up with:

    116 - 112 - 90 - 126 - 113 (each value representing each kick drum hit in the example)

But we don't want values too low and we don't want values to be the same throughout the whole part (just to keep as much of the original part as possible but without these anomalies), so we enable an option to enter a range where we want the extracted pulse levels to be within, so SONAR fixes the velocity of the extracted Midi notes every time it finds a pulse level below or above the selected range.

So lets say we dialed a range from 110 to 120, then sonar would reassign values to notes outside the range in the following form

    116 - 112 - 110 - 120 - 113

So you can see that notes that were outside the range were actually modified to meet your criteria of range.

You can do this now, using Sonar's "Find & Replace" function

It used to be called Interpolate

There is also the Midi Velocity tool which has a lot more functionality than just forcing notes outside a given range to a fixed velocity.

There's a couple of CAL functions that'll do that as well IIRC.

+1 To having regions, independent from markers, if possible, having them coloured and while they are at it, pin notes to them, too.
