Condenser or Condensor?
Isn't it condenSER? Not condenSOR? As in CondenSER mics? I just want to confirm this and want people to read what really is correct so they won't end up using the same wrong term over and over again to the point it gets tiring.
Check out my band's song on YouTube!

You say 'tomato'...I say 'tom-ah-to'.... My favourite part-of-speech is/are HETERONYMNS In the blowing wind, you saw him wind his watch... The white winged dove dove into the bushes... In one minute, I was able to see minute details I'd like homonyms too if I weren't homonymophobic..... Oh - don't forget palidromes. Words or sentences that read the same forward and backward....the longest I know being: "go hang a salami, I'm a lasagna hog" Glad I could clear up your condenczar issue.... Martin

Have you checked the OED? to simply see if there can be a right way for a wright to write?

The dictionary says "condenser", but it's "condensor" according to a lot of mic manufacturers (or is it manufacturors? ) I think maybe some manufacturers want to differentiate a microphone condensOr from, say, an air conditioning condensEr. It's the same thing with "compact disc" where the manufacturers deviate from the normal dictionary spelling like in "floppy disk" for whatever reasons I have no idea. But I'll stick with condensor since that's what's printed on my mic manual.

Spaceduck Fog so when you mix... does the kick drum pan centre or center ??!?! I have this argument with a baker, who seems to think MY spelling is wrong .. bah! I've always wondered if y'all on the right side of the pond think Americans are chronic misspellers. I fully admit my spelling is totally confused; I've bounced from the USA to Europe to Canada enough to ensure that I get it wrong wherever I am funny you say that. when I was in elementary school one of my teachers asked me if one of my parents was British because I'd spell some words using the English spelling and some using the American spelling. I don't know why I did that because both of my parents were not only American but they were very rural Tennessee natives (that's a politically correct way of saying they were "hillbillies!). Even sometimes today I still have to think about some words like theater vs. theatre, center vs centre, color vs colour, analog vs analogue. the "s' vs "c" never bothered me, tho. I don't have a problem spelling license (vs. licence) or defense (vs. defence).

Haha, then I'm not the only one! I also think the internet, with its cross-continental jumbling, is giving us all a bit o' the identity crisis. My big hangup is when to use 'z' vs. 's'. Like in Anglicizing. Or is it Anglicising. Or Anglisising....

Someone once told me on this here forum that you can't 'pan' something 'centre', it has to be left or right or it's not panned at all...still not sure about that one.

Or you can just spell it "capacitor". In North America we stopped calling capacitors "condensers" long ago, while in the UK "condenser" remained popular. Of course, I'm referring to the electronic components, not microphones. Curiously, we still use the older term "condenser" when referring to variable-capacitance microphones. However, I do see the term "capacitor microphone" used in some British articles and advertisements. Let's just all switch to ribbons. At least we all agree on what they're called.

I used to write 'BD' on the masking tape on the mixing desks. But I think that was only because it has less letters than writing 'KIK'. Always used to feel sorry for channels 1 and 24. Nothing ever went to those except a Kik or SMPTE code. Channel 17 on the other hand was always good for a surprise.
