Confused about colors in the piano view

Newbie here trialing X1. And being very confused by colors in the piano view. 

I have two MIDI tracks, and I'm looking at them both separately in the PV. First of all, the track color indicator in the track pane bears little resemblance to the note colors on the grid. For instance, track 1 is labeled brown in the track pane, but the notes are yellow in the grid. When I click on a note to select it, however, all of the notes turn green. That's 3 colors. Track 2, however, is red in the track pane. The notes on the grid are orange. When I click on one, they all turn red. 

For the life of me I cannot work out what is going on with these colors. Intuitively, it should be that each track has its own color which it sticks to. And yet for each track I'm seeing 3 colors at different times, not all of which are related in any meaningful way. 

Any suggestions? 

Also the shading of each note will get lighter with lower velocities.

Or is that just an X1 thing?

If you are looking at multiple tracks/clips in the piano roll view then only the active track/clip notes will resemble the color. All other will be little different because they are not active, once you click on those notes the color will be same as the track. Hope it helps.
