Confused, as usual

This is probably a dumb question to which I can't find an answer on the board, but how do I record a real drum kit? I've always used an old Alesis machine in the past. My band wants to begin to work out some parts before dropping huge bucks in a recording studio, but I'm not sure how to record and mix the drums.

If I want to run four mics on the kit, how do I mix these mics? My Echo-MIA sound card has two inputs. Does this mean that I mix the four tracks on an external mixer but can only control two tracks of drums on Guitar Pro? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

That's exactly what it means. I'm open to correction, but I believe GT and MC3 will only accept 2 inputs at a time. Since your Echo Mia has two inputs that in itself is not a problem. SHS4 and above will accept multiple inputs, but to take advantage of that, your hardware has to have multiple inputs. That = $. There are firewire mixers that have 8 or 16 inputs, but to really use that, you would need to upgrade your software.

That's a bit disappointing, but not exactly the end of the world for what we're trying to accomplish. Thanks for the help.

You can record from as many inputs as you have with GTPro3 as well.

So does that mean my soundcard is the problem? If I were to get a cheap firewire mixer, would that allow me to have control of more than the two tracks provided by my Echo MIA inputs, or does that simply allow me to mix the mics down to two tracks in GTPro3? Thanks for the input. Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, your soundcard is going to need more inputs if you wish to record more than 2 simultaneously.
My EMU 1820m allows me to record 6 tracks individually...but up to 18 if I'm also using ADAT.
