Congas/Bongos MIDI loops

Anyone know of any conga or bongo MIDI loops available? I'm doing a percussion part, 180 bpm, that I need to be able to edit.

I've seen some on google, but they're mostly .wavs.

Cheers

Conga is such a formal instrument you ought to be able to find a great afro cuban website and then just do it up in PRV. It's not just wild men playing the feel... it's serious stuff with a few notable rhythms that are at the core.

Just and an opinion and a thought.

    best regards,

    It's been a while Rob....

I don't use many conga & bongo sounds.... I know Jamstix has Latin percussion in it..... and it is editable.

I don't know about the other VST drum synths... but I would think most would have some LP in them....

That's what I would check into. Searching the web for good and at the same time...free...sounds has pretty much been an exercise in futility for me.... some worked, some didn't, and most did not sound real enough when they did work.

So I decided to start buying the synths and VST's to get the job done right.

Barring that option..... IIRC.... TTS and the GM have some LP in them.....I think.... it's been so long since I used them. In addition, many keyboards (my cheap "shack" has some)  also incorporate a number of LP sounds.... However.....the big issue with the do it yourself approach to LP is that unless you are schooled in that style of music, it will be a monumental task to get the correct rythem patterns set up.

RXP have a few good ones and the oft overlooked Beatscape have congo/bongo loops by the dozens of great quality that you can also load into RXP for better tweakability. Also you can load any wave-loop into beatscape and it will slice it for you so you can play slices independantly or rearange the loop while it follows your song tempo.

Sadly very reduced studio equipment as it is... ASUS G750J, 8 gb RAM, Win8, Roland Quad Capture.

just use the wav's.... as a groove template.. and get it to generate midi slices ... and replace with ya own samples..

I use recycle to do such things, but sonar can do it..

Thanks everyone, I'll have a dig about when I'm in work tonight to see what I can do with the wavs.

Herb you're right - I tried to start my own bongo/conga rhythm in the PRV but no matter what I do I can't get the correct syncopation right at all. Sounds terrible, didn't realise it was so difficult.

I'll have a look at the Latin rhythms in JS2, maybe I'll hit lucky.

    Cheers

    Hi Rob,

In JS2, Jamcussion may be what you want (hand percussion with new drummers and styles) rather than whatever might be in the regular styles.

Dave that's great news. I've just checked out Rayzoon, and Jamcussion is the obvious way to go.

    Many thanks

another option but certainly  more expensive than Jamstix is Band in a Box. It has thousands of styles (counting the variations of styles) and hundreds of different LP styles and their many variations..... stuff you've never heard of but some of it is quite interesting.  Absolutely amazing stuff in BB and it comes with real drums....you'd be like a kid in a candy store....... do I want the Havana/African style or the Salsa/African..... hummmmm... or do I want the Bossa Nova New Cuban...... or......

I can spend hours just listening to a chord progression played in dozens of styles...and love every one of them.....well...almost....

George Pendergast: Essential Percussion.  This is a steal at $29.95.  They are not midi, but acidized wavs.  I highly recommend it.

Hi - don't know if this is what you are looking for but Groovemonkee do some percussion midi patterns in their "World Beats" product http://www.groovemonkee.com/home/virtuemart/2.html

I have some of their stuff and and it sounds good to my ears.

Thanks all. I've got Jamcussion installed now, and there's plenty of stuff for me to play about with. Looks pretty complicated, but so is everything else until you get to know it.

    Cheers
