Congratulations, Manitoba!

I see you're gonna be able to buy legal pot next year. Welcome to the 21st century!

So is NJ.

I don't know about the 21st century part though.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

It's supposed to be all of Canada... and it should have happened ages ago... like multiple times.

Chretien tried but ya'll Yankernuts got a bug up your butt (well your ridiculous WoD department of graft and paranoia did) and threatened sanctions/border restrictions if we did legalize.

Thanks for that.

Actually, sorry. That wasn't even about legalization. Merely decriminalization... which made it even lamer.

I'm not that into modern pot. Someone told me that the ratio of THC to CBD is all out of whack in modern strains - too much THC and not enough CBD - and that's what makes it so much trippier and intense as compared to traditional pot. I don't know how true this is, but when I try it these days I get way too tripped out. I get that weird visual thing when everything turns into a mosaic that's simultaneously far away and close up at the same time, and I have to do something normal like clean dishes for 5 minutes or so to stop myself from losing it. When it settles down it's quite nice, and enhances music just like my old pot use to, but unlike my old pot it makes me incredibly sleepy after my 2nd hit. I keep nodding off and jerking my head back when I wake up. One time I ended up with my head on my keyboard completely incapable of getting up. I just feel like that's a huge waste of bud. Mind you, all the weed in NYC seems to be this ultra freaky stuff.

A friend of mine spent a lot of time in Thailand recently, in a sort of hippy commune, and he said the weed he got over there was wonderful - natural stuff that was just like the weed we used to smoke when we were younger. Sometimes I think I'd rather have dry, seedy brick weed than the Frankenstein strains that are available today.

I'm totally with you on that, Rain. Most store-bought pot doesn't do anything for me, either.

However, legalization also means I won't get hassled for growing a few plants on my back deck. Also, once legalized, the market naturally responds to consumer demand, and most adults over 30 are demanding lower THC levels and/or high CBD levels for medicinal applications. Consequently, growers are now breeding strains for other goals beyond knocking you on your butt, such as pain relief and epilepsy mitigation.

Free-market capitalism. It works if we just let it.

I think it took this long because of the litigious society we live in.
Before they could legalize it, the govt had to address stuff like driving stoned, smoking pot in the workplace (or at least in the outdoor "cigarette" areas,  who is willing to bribe the politicians for favourable decisions, taxation, legal age for buyers, and other points that nobody cares about until someone is "infringed upon."

For years in Toronto, the police haven't cared if you walk past them smoking a joint.  The only charges have been laid against the businesses that were openly selling.  And that's really only because they were flaunting the fact that they were still breaking the law.  I doubt any sidewalk dealers have been charged in years.

It's finally becoming legal in Ontario.  I haven't smoked pot in 20 years, but am glad to see that the incredible waste due to prosecution is coming to an end.

Lucky guy. I've been on medical grade pot for so long that I don't get that 'high' anymore. But, all the nasty s**t from Crohn's and the physical and emotional problems from a concussion I suffered long ago disappear!

And I lost the ability to metabolize alcohol this summer, so? No intoxicants for me.
